Tony Snow passes away of cancer

cubbie

I knew he had colon cancer and had resigned as White House press secretary because of it.

I'm sad. I really liked him from his radio show and Fox news days.:(

BBC news

Whoa, I had no idea he cancer (or that was the reason he resigned).

I loved his appearance on Wait, Wait...Dont Tell Me! (which has a nice tradition of featuring Bush Press Secretaries).

Rest in peace, Tony. :(

Well, knowing he was sick I can't say I'm shocked but he seemed as though he was making a pretty good recovery after his chemo treatments. :(

Very sad. RIP Snow-man.

I knew he had cancer, although I also thought he was doing well and was in remission. I liked him a lot - he seemed like a really good guy. This is very sad news. Rest in peace, Tony Snow, and prayers for and condolences to his family.

It's possible he had some personal virtues which could have earned the love and respect of his private friends and family. This is sad for them.

But he worked as a mouthpiece for a vile government engaged in criminal activities. His public life deserved nothing but contempt.

He may have been a mouthpiece for evil, but he always seemed to believe in what he was saying, so that's something I suppose. And I saw a few Daily Show interviews which showed he had a sense of humour about himself.

Cancer is horrible, and I hope he did not suffer. And that his family are okay.

My dad and sister met him at the White House last year. Said he was, despite his politics, a friendly, polite gentleman.

RIP, Snowjob.

How gracious of you to say that it's possible he might have had some personal virtues.

You are, as usual, absolutely wrong.

^ Sadly, he is not wrong. However, since the poor guy just died, maybe it would be wiser not to comment heavily on the part he has played in the government.

^ Poor guy? What, no bumpersticker proclaiming joy that there's one less Republican in the world? Maybe you and Morrissey can go out and celebrate.

This isn't supposed to be a political thread. Let's focus on his passing away, please.

I prefer to keep my politics to myself on this and the other forums I inhabit as I like to keep my friends and I've found that talking politics these days is a good way of losing friends. One of the more interesting things I found out about Tony Snow was that he was a pretty good musician who could play more than one instrument and loved to perform. As a press secretary, what I liked most about him was that when he didn't know the answer to a reporter's question, he said he didn't know, but that he would find out and get back to that reporter--and then he did what he promised he would do.

Regardless of one's political ideologies, to say that someone lived a good and honorable life is the highest compliment I think one could pay to that individual and Tony Snow did just that.

Well said.

I am not saddened by the death of Mr Snow.
Tony Snow left behind a wife, 3 kids... He lived a life that few could dream of.
If anything, I would like to praise such a great individual. This man left a news organization where he was making pretty good money to serve the White House and the American People. We, as a nation, have lost a great individual. But the man lived life on his terms... Rest in Peace Mr Snow.

Very well said. There are honorable people on both sides of the aisle doing what they think is best for their country.
