Tonsil Tit for Tat

Laura Cynthia Chambers

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Alternate "Man Trap" troll moment.

Leonard McCoy stared into the dark void before him.

The throat of his former love's husband. The one she had chosen over him.

Personally, he didn't see it.

The man held his mouth open.

And something inside Leonard pinged. I'm going to have a little fun with this guy…

Pressing down on Crater's tongue with his depressor, he put on his best "serious doctor" face and tsked, head shaking. "Yup, it's going to have to come out."

Crater's eyes widened. "Muh tonsils?"

McCoy had him. Giving him one last serious look, he removed the depressor. "No, you idiot, the stick," he grinned.

Sometime post "This Side Of Paradise".

Kirk stepped into sickbay and surveyed the scene before him. A blue shirted man sat on the edge of a bed, his back rigid and arms crossed. "Mmmm!" he growled.

"What's all this about, Nurse?" he asked. "It's not every day you summon me to sickbay. And frankly, it sounded more like an order…"

Next to the bedside, a disapproving Nurse Chapel frowned at the man. "You'll have to tell him, Captain," she sighed, her hands on her hips, tsking. "He just won't listen to me."

Kirk smiled. "Somebody won't take their medicine?"

"You could say that," she replied, shooting another look at her patient. "Stubborn as a mule."

"And you want me to order him to?" Kirk asked. "I thought that was Bones' job. Surely…" His voice trailed off as the patient turned to face him. "Bones?"

"Mmmmm." McCoy pressed his lips together tightly and shook his head.

"You see my problem, Captain?" Chapel crossed her arms. "He's been like that ever since I confirmed it for him."

"Confirmed what?" Kirk asked, scratching his head.

Chapel moved towards McCoy, who pulled back, shaking his head. "Really, Doctor, you of all people should understand," she scolded. "The next starbase we reach, you're going to get it done. If I have to carry you myself, I will." She stepped past McCoy and looked Kirk in the eye. "Remember the incident with the spores, Captain?" she whispered.

"On Omicron Ceti III…yes." He thought back to the incident, wondering what on Earth would prompt such a strong reaction from McCoy regarding that occurrence.

Then it hit him.

"Tonsils…." Kirk covered his face with his hands. "He has to have them removed again?!" He looked between McCoy and Chapel. He grunted; she nodded, a firm look of determination and exasperation on her face.

"Please, Jim…" McCoy rasped, coughing. "Not that again."

Kirk clapped his hand on McCoy's shoulder. "No worries, Bones," he assured, squeezing gently. McCoy looked up at him, relief evident in his blue eyes. "I'll bring you plenty of ice cream." The doctor's face fell.

As he turned to leave the room, he called back, "Don't make me order you, Doctor."

The last thing he heard as the door swished shut was a growly "Traitor."

Thanks. I don't know if it's just that he's a bad patient, or that he feels cheated - after all, he grew them back again, but he can't keep them. No such luck. :D
