Tonight's Family Guy Should Have Stayed Unaired

Hm. Family Guy is to American Dad as Buffy is to Angel?

In both cases, it was surprising and oddly disappointing when I found myself thinking the latter was doing better than the former.

Wow, one day we will have a movie based on Cleveland...

...I just don't know what to think about that.

Yeah, I've been surprised at how funny "American Dad" has actually been this season -- I actually had a few real good laughs.
It's very underrated. I personally feel like Roger makes the show. Plus the frequent appearances of Patrick Stewart as the CIA Director are great.

I feel that Family Guy is a fundamentally bad show. The humor comes from the shock value, not the characters except on occasion Brian and Stewie. American Dad, IMO, is far better because the characters are stronger and the satire stronger because of it.

Well, Family Guy has always had it's strength in it's random references. The problem is that, on occasion, the references just aren't funny.

This was the first time I've tuned into Family Guy in a long while and I totally regret it. Waste of a half an hour.

I am looking forward to the TNG cast reunion episode, though.

Agree completely with the OP.

I kept wondering during this episode, does anyone remember when this show was actually *funny*?

The Star Wars special.

Even that was almost ruined by the old pedo as Obi-Wan. Dude is so annoying.
Agreed. I think Carter Pewterschmidt would have been a better Obi-Wan. He's shown some fondness for Chris (and his other grandchildren), plus all the scenes between he and Han/Peter would have been gold.

But no, they wasted him on Uncle Owen.

I can't believe that people actually think American Dad is the superior show. I only watched maybe half of the first season, and then an occasional episode since then, and that thing just never showed any signs of life.

This episode of Family Guy wasn't very good, and the displaced in time OJ story was just plain weird, but in general I think the show is still pretty good.

Not a lot of great material in this one, but I did burst out laughing at Brian scaring himself awake with his own farts.

I read pieces of an interview with the creators of 'Phineas&Ferb', both Family Guy alumni, who took up the challenge of using the cutaways and timing of FG without the raunch, and IMO, have done so brilliantly. One scene I watched, with Buford the Bully, exemplified what FG used to be :

Phineas : Sorry, Buford. Read the sign.

Buford : No Bullying and No Yodeling. Aww, Man!

(Swiss Guy in traditional garb shrugs behind him)

SG : I don't like this any better than you do.

The Swiss Guy even sounded like Michael Bell's Sven, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was. That was what FG used to do.

As for the Conway Twitty thing? Would've been loads funnier if Lois had cut it off in mid-segue.

Wow. I'll defend any Family Guy episode as being funny in someway, except for this one. They played an entire three minute Twitty song??? That is the most excessive long-take one-note-gag they have EVER done (I don't count the Chicken Fights cause they're great). Jesus. And an entire episode about OJ after his arrest and jailing was just... tired... old... lame... too little too late... I think this might be the first ever episode I just found to be completely terrible.

I usually can find something good in an average Family Guy, not this one. I had a desperate laugh at Brian farting himself awake, but too little too late.

Awful.

5 flushes on the puke-o-meter.
