Tonight's Family Guy Should Have Stayed Unaired

Right before tonight's airing of Family Guy, there was a screen which noted that this was an unaired episode that was made in early 2007.

Well, after watching it, I can see what it was unaired. They pretty much ruined the episode about 5 minutes in with a 5-minute long Conway Twitty video that wasn't funny at all. They did this joke around this time in another episode, except that it was much shorter and less annoying.

The OJ Simpson jokes were somewhat dated because this was made before the whole incident in Las Vegas that he was eventually convicted for.

It was shit. O.J. jokes ceased being funny 10 years ago, Vegas incident or not. I almost changed the channel when the Conway Twitty footage went on past 30 seconds.

Only redeeming thing was Stewie's rooftop interview...mainly for bashing Diablo Cody.

One day there'll be an episode composed of nothing but a fight with the giant chicken and a Conway Twitty clip. And it'll still have more entertainment value than this did.

To quote myself in the other thread:

I was considering starting a thread for this. As soon as I saw the Beaver set up the joke for the rest of the episode, I turned it off. Someone better tell me the rest of this episode was hilarious, because it certainly wasn't when I was watching.

This is actually the third time they've done the Twitty rutine. Second if you count the fact this was made earlier and unaired.

This was bad, bad, BAD.

Agree completely with the OP.

I kept wondering during this episode, does anyone remember when this show was actually *funny*?

I personally thought the other episodes so far this season have been either average or good. Last week's was about average.

I think people are misunderstanding that caption. It was a joke explanation of why the episode doesn't mention Simpson's more recent legal trouble. This isn't really an unaired earlier episode; it has the latest production code of any episode broadcast so far.

I think this whole season has overall been pretty weak. Last year was mostly great, as was the year before, but they've really missed the mark this season.

On the other hand, American Dad was once again the superior show. It's a shame it doesn't get the ratings that Family Guy does.

(looks at his DVD collection) I've been finding American Dad more rewatchable as well.

I feel like as long as the show focuses on Brian or Stewie it'll be fairly good, but as soon as it becomes Peter-centric...not so much.

And have there even been any Meg/Chris/Lois-centric episodes lately?

the Conway Twitty buisness is crap, the 10 minute long chicken fight was atleast entertaining filler, but this was just the mark of poor writing

Yeah, I've been surprised at how funny "American Dad" has actually been this season -- I actually had a few real good laughs.

The Twitty stuff wasn't funny the first time and this was like the third time.
Bingo

Yes, at least the Chicken Fight thing had SOME creativity involved. On any other network besides FOX this episode never would have seen the light of day primarily because it just sucks.

It's very underrated. I personally feel like Roger makes the show. Plus the frequent appearances of Patrick Stewart as the CIA Director are great.

Obviously I'm a bit of a Family guy fan. that being said, that Twitty segment made no sense comically or otherwise. What? Did they think the longer it went on, the funnier it would get? Sorry, but Conway Twitty just aint funny to begin with. What are they going to do next week? Give us ten minutes of Roy Clark? I fear this may be a case of the writing staff spreading themselves too thin between this and American Guy. I can't wait to see the quality level once they throw Cleaveland Guy onto the pile.

I think I would have been fine with the Conway Twitty cutaway if it hadn't gone on for remotely as long as it did. Initially it was amusing (especially since I knew it was recurring) but once it started to drag I found myself wanting to change the channel.

I totally agree. I used to be a huge FG fan but have drifted to American Dad because the writing and humor just seems so much better now than FG is now, which in an of itself doesn't mean much.

Does this mean 'The Cleveland Show' will be funnier than either of them but that both previous shows will cease to be funny?
