tonight i saw an episode i'd never seen before

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
"Violations."

I' truely never seen it.

I liked the talk about memories..between Data and Geordi, and liked the Crusher flashback
but overall it just didnt feel right to me

I'm interested. What didn't feel "right"? I think that Violations has an odd atmosphere to it. It doesn't "feel" like a typical TNG episode. I like it, though, it's one of my favourites. It still makes me think, even all these years later, and I like that. I still to this day remember seeing the teaser for the "next time on TNG" for this episode and everyone in the room going "wtf?!?!".

This one's better than my lost episode. For years I always missed "The Vengeance Factor" and when I finally saw it I wished I never had. What a crappy episode. :scream:

I liked this episode. Wasn't the Crusher flashback of when Jean-Luc was taking Beverly to see Jack's dead body?

Yes. It really is a shame we never got more about that whole back story. Some kind of episode really incorporating their history would have been really cool. It seemed like something was building in season 1. And in general, I like their relationship a lot more in season 1 when Beverly hadn't become completely bland yet. Having more scenes like the Violations one or the scenes in Arsenal of Freedom would have been very useful for her character.

Violations has some creepy moments. I quite liked it.

My "lost episode" was The High Ground, purely because the BBC never showed it. I only saw it when I got the DVD of that series. I quite enjoyed it, though I think that was partly because it felt more relevant post-911 than it would have been at time of original broadcast.

As for the Ireland reference, it's such a throwaway line that I couldn't get worked up over it. I mean the entire world is united by the time of TNG, let alone Ireland.

^That's my lost episode, too. (Though not due to any ban.) The airing that I (finally!) caught was the very last time that the episode aired on Spike.

I really enjoyed "Violations". The memories/nightmares were suitably disturbing with Bev's being the most unnerving; the character interplay such as the dinner scene with the Ulians was first-rate, Riker's concern for Troi was sweet, Geordi and Data's investigation held my attention; I liked seeing another doctor besides Beveryly, loved Troi fighting back against Jev and Worf coming in and knocking him out so effortlessly and those Ulian robes were really stylish I thought.

Absolutely. It's stuff like this that I like to point to when people say TNG had no interesting characters. Each of the comments made by the crew can be interpreted as coming from past experiences, either in their backstory or events we've seen. TNG's characters were rich not because of an arc, but because the writers usually remembered past stories and used that history in writing new eps. It made for layered characters.

Oh, definitely.

That's one of the things I like about the episode. I do wish that the whole Bev/Jack/Jean-Luc angle had been given more air time. They should have had a flashback episode or something (a la Lost).

"Violations" might make some feel uncomfortable because of the mind-rape scenes that are a bit disturbing. That NEMESIS brought back the concept was a nice tip to continuity. I thought it was a very good episode. I did like the Crusher/Crusher/Picard flashback. They had the same actor play Jack dead as the one who played him alive a couple of times later; Doug Wert, I think. Again, a nice bit of continuity, which I always like.

KELLER IS STILL IN THERE!!!! keller is still in there... keller is still in there!!!

It's funny, Violations seems to be the episode that's on any time I randomly tune into TNG on tv...I must have seen it more times than any other episode by now. It's good, but not great. I remember it most for the strangest costuming choice in the show's run...

My missing episodes remain The Loss, and both parts of Birthright. These two have eluded me for years.
