News TOMY Star Trek Diecast Ship Replicas

It's really a shame that with so much good work, the lasting legacy of this will probably be screw-holes and that insane stand.

It is a shame because it’s actually quite pretty. They’ve done a great job capturing the original paint scheme.

Personally I could live with the screw holes but that stand is nuts. I’m a scale modeller and there must have been a more elegant way to do it than that.

@all It seems picky, but I also notice the base is a TOS movie style delta, with the circle. Did we ever see deltas like that in TOS?

In semi-darkness, that model would actually shine. :luvlove:

This model looks good in the dark is something of a sad indictment.

You’re not wrong though. There’s an incredible amount of detail gone into how it’s lit.

The Bussards on the nacelles in particular are really well done. That’s something that’s been really hard to replicate historically. It’s never looked right in CGI.

Oh well. I was never in the market for this, I just like looking at pictures of Toys. The stand is very ugly. There are lots of ways to make a stand for a flying model, from something is simple as dowel sprayed black (not for this, too heavy) all the way to much more elegant solutions. The stand they used just looks nasty in every conceivable way. It’s ugly, over-designed and highly conspicuous.

If they wanted to go down the original studio model route, they should have replicated the shitty side of the actual studio model. I mean, I think a lot of fans would like to own a replica of the actual model that stands in the Smithsonian. There’s been dozens of Enterprise models, but I don’t think there’s ever been a scale model of the actual filming prop, warts and all. Then possibly they could have made a virtue of the plugholes and whatnot.

Overall, I think it’s pretty. I feel sorry for anyone who paid up, thinking it was going to be one thing only for it to turn out to be another though.

So even after all the negativity surrounding this. I'm still excited to get this. I did not cancel. I figure there will not be a release of this kind for a very long time if ever. I'm getting to old too delay my enjoyment of a 1/350 pre-built TOS ENTEPRISE. ....:guffaw:
