Tom Paris - awesome or vastly underused?

First Officer? It's a frakking miracle he didn't make it to Captain in that episode.

He was also the first officer in Resolutions, but Kes acted more like she was the First Officer, since it was the XO's job to tell harry to Shut the Frakk up about his suicide kick to offer his kidneys to the Vidiian for the Wiff of chance that Kathryn will continue to under appreciate him..

Kes was the one who sold Tuvok on Kim's idea, or at least gave him a more comfortable out. But this episode doesn't take Tom seriously at all as a leader, which seems right to me. Most people love Paris it seems but he always came across to me as fundamentally weak.

I badly expressed half of what I was thinking as usual.

Crew does not approach the Captain Directly.

Subordinates tell their superiors facts/information/suggestions, who pass it on to their superiors if it seems worth their time, who passes it on to the XO if it seems worth his time, who passes it on to the Captain if it seems worth his time.

What I should have said is that the XO (Tom?) should have told Kim to shut the fuck up, and then if Kim's idea isn't full of pooh that's going to get them all killed, it's the XO who should appraoch the Captain with the idea to get butchered by the Vidiians.

Kim jumped queue and said FU to the chain of command.

It's no wonder no one wanted to promote him if he kept pissing on his immediate superiors to brownnose the Captain.

Kes took a shitty idea and made it significanty less suisidal.

She always nearly seduced Tuvok. Another 40 seconds and he would have had her pants off if she had asked... Kim just RANTED and RANTED treating everyone like an idiot who disagreed with him...

Oh.

I'm Kim?

Fuck.

I know this thread has been here for a few weeks and if this was brought up, my apologies, but why can't he be both. Paris was awesome, and vastly underused. I still consider the relationship between him and Torres to be the best Trek relationship of the franchise.

I've been having some seriously erotic dreams about him lately.

That said, we need some more Tom Paris lovin ;)
I just think he's awesome, and as the series goes on, we see him less and less and it makes me sad. HaHa.

By the way, thought we needed a little imagery. ;)

He used to be so hot. Not so much these days. HaHa.

I would not have minded if Tom had gotten more screentime, but as it is, he's one of my favorite Star Trek characters. He never got dull or annoying, and I really enjoyed the dynamic he had with the rest of the cast. I feel like he had chemistry with everybody, and Tom and B'Elanna remain to this day my favorite Trek couple. At least B'Elanna was bitchy because she was half-Klingon. What was Keiko's excuse?
Miles was a great Engineer but he was a dimwit as a husband.
Keiko did have reason to get annoyed with him when she did. Keiko was very mature, Miles acted like a little boy allot. Keiko was raising a child while Miles was playing with toys and video games with Julian. She treated him how he acted.

I think Miles should have been allowed to act however the heck he wanted to without getting flack from his wife, considering how hard he worked. She barely did anything worthwhile.

What does a botanist do on a starship?

Everytime they passed an unknown planet she had to smell all the flowers.

Wow.

That's a shit load of flowers.

Just going to leave this here. Of course now I'm horny for Tom Paris again.

Use this speech on your future wife and watch her reaction.;)

Answers always lay in extremes.

After you have said this to some dozen number of women.

You'll want to hitch your wagon to the one who thumps you the most, or the least.

My fav character is Tom Paris. I don't think he was underused either, I loved his character and everything he did.

Tom was okay, but I have never much cared for fictional characters like that in general. I don't like rogues, be they in TV, film, or print. Their snarky and sarcastic attitude does not appeal to me at all.

But he completely failed at that other than his rebellion in 30 Days. He was too boyish and squeaky clean to be a rogue. Sarcasm? A vaguely dry wit now and then was as close as it got. Commentary. But not sarcasm.

Woah!?

Janeway and the Prime Directive say that she's going to let a duly elected idiot government doom their civilization into factual extinction by maintaining a fantastically bad ecologically irresponsible technology and suddenly Tom is FONZIE because he does what Green Peace does every day in the real world, well at least what they would do if they had nukes.

Who would Green Peace Nuke first?

And what his motivation?

"I like simply messing about in boats".

WTF?

That's Toad.

Toad of Toad Hall.

Women say that they don't want Mister Toads Wild Ride, they want romance, but to be fair, everyone wants Mister Toads Wild Ride.

The crew of the Sea Shepard are rogues. Ideology driven rogues like Paris managed to pony up into for 30 Days. His ONE dalliance in roguedom.

Do you know how they wash their clothes on the Sea Shepherd when they are on their long, cold, fishy voyages saving stuff? They put all their clothes in a net and drag them behind the boat until they are cleaner than they were before they went into the net. So they are a lot more rogueish in scent then Tom Paris and his replicated uniforms. Do you still smell of salt after leaving a Horatio Hornblower holonovel?

Cue Generations?

I'm just trying to picture how Star Trek VII would have been nailed down if the command staff didn't have time to change out of their playwear till after the final credits rolled?

It would have been horribly embarrassing.

I would have DIED of embarrassment.

It would have knocked ST:V right off its camp pedestal.
