Tom Keith RIP

If you are a listener to public radio's A Prairie Home Companion you may have already heard the sad news about Tom Keith.

If not, here is Garrison Keillor's tribute to him at the PHC website: http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/features/special/tom-keith/

Here are Garrison and Tom having some fun with The Twelve Days of Christmas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGyVa0Rq8dc

And here is is in a funny bit about the art of "percussive repair": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVFFXulrRRw&feature=related

As a fan of radio, I was always entertained at Mr. Keith's creativity and ingenuity that produced the myriad of voices and sound effects for the show every week. That program was luck to have Tom Keith, and we as listeners were lucky to hear his work every week.

Oh dear. :(

I remember listening to that show. This guy was one of my favorites on it. Nobody could do sound effects the way he could. RIP Tom.

I remember when I saw the Prairie Home Companion movie, on the way out, I talked to a fellow who didn't know it was based on a real radio show. The first thing he asked was if the sound effects guy was a real part of it. Whenever the show had a video, watching him work with his box of tricks was as impressive as seeing any of the musicians work their instruments.
