Tom Hardy for Batman 3?

Anyone think that Rutger Hauer should return? He has a grudge against Wayne and Fox. It would make sense for him to get some revenge.

My point is that as good as Nolan's movies can be, he has a disappointing tendency to shy away from some trademark elements of his source material (costumes, the bat crashing through Bruce Wayne's window, the batcave) for fear that they'll look too "silly" on the big screen. And I find it equally disappointing that so many comic fans seem to go right along with it.

They probably go right along with it because the available evidence bears out the idea that those elements do look silly on the big screen. A big stylised Batcave clearly designed to show off despite the fact only Wayne and Alfred ever go in there is not my favourite part of the earlier films. And as for the costumes, Batman's suit is not dissimilar to previous movies, but explained in a way that makes it functional and logical. And The Joker was dressed reasonably traditionally, albeit with the colours muted a bit. I think Nolan did a great job of taking elements like the costumes and using them in a way that was faithful to both the source material and a reasonably believable 'real world'.

I don't see how you can say that, since we have yet to see them attempt to do the comics' version of the Batcave, the Batmobile and the costume on the big screen. For six movies, we've only seen the filmmakers' versions of the same.

Believe me, the filmmakers know that it looked silly. There's such a thing as a design phase during pre-production. Yes, it looks only silly to them, I know. But what do you expect? That they make a movie that they don't like? That's not what a filmmaker should do.

And which comic version of the Batcave and Batmobile do you actually mean?

I'd settle for any. The comics must have had at least a dozen different designs over the years that would work on the big screen. I and I doubt any of them would look any sillier than what we got in Burton & Schumacher's movies.

What was silly about the Burton cave? It was almost as basic and realistic as the one in the Nolan movie. The first cave had a bank of television monitors and a chair. It had a place for the car and the batwing. No collected mementos yet of course, don't really think there's a place for a Giant Penny or a T-Rex. I guess I just disagree with your assessement that we didn't get a Batcave.

The only thing about the Burton Batcave that doesn't make sense is that giant bat symbol (or was that the Schumacher cave?). I mean... why? Bruce Wayne isn't Batman because of his ego, he needs no bat symbol in his own cave.

I loved the Schumacher cave with the impractical platform that brought the Batmobile to the surface and the miles-long tunnel between the cave and the outside world.

"Sorry it took so long for us to get here to the robbery, Commissioner Gordon! But you called, had to wait for the hydraulics to warm up and lift the Batmobile to the surface, had to argue with Robin, then it's a good 5-mile drive from the cave to the road, you know. Still got to get some kinks out of the whole "lair" thing but when my butler reveals the thing to someone in every movie it sort-of forces me to keep moving it."

Schumacher's version looked it was just the basement of Wayne Manor. That was my gripe and it didn't look massive.

You turned the silver wear case shelf then walked a few steps down and you're in the Bat cave.

Burton's was decent. It looked huge but it was so dark I couldn't make out the general design of it. I wish there was concept art.

I liked the Burton cave more than the schumacher cave, and I understood what Nolan was attempting with his cave, it was more of a proto-cave than anything else. There wasn't any time for Alfred and Bruce to furnish it with anything and really since Bruce was getting all his tech from Lucious there was no point in him having a cave.

Never said that the Burton cave did look silly. Just that something closer to the comics version wouldn't look silly either.

There will be no Robin in the series, Nolan has said that he thinks Dick isn't even a glimmer in his fictional parents eye during his films or something to that effect. That being said I think if they adopted "Dark Victory" that would wipe the nasty taste out of people's mouth concerning the Schumacher Robin's. I firmly believe that the only reason people are against having Robin is because of how he was depicted in "Forever" and "Batman and Robin" which was fundamentally wrong. The dynamic was wrong because of the age they made the character. Dark Victory handles Dick's origin and introduction as Robin with maturity and a bit of darkness.

I keep suggesting that Black Mask will appear in the third film just to bug JacksonArcher! Although it would seem I'm not the only one who thinks that way since I've seen a few fan made posters with his image on them.

It would be interesting to finally see Robin depicted as a kid in a love-action movie. I think the youngest he's ever been depicted is 15-ish in the first Batman serial. That said, I don't see a Robin ever fitting into the Nolan Batman world.

Black Mask I could see working, though. What do you have against him, JacksonArcher?
