Tom Hanks to Star in Major Matt Mason Movie

Yes, at least I am and I'm 35. I got a little bit in to it after reading "Space Cadet" and able to find some Mason toys around in the 90s at antique stores and the like in my younger years. This was in the slow time before Star Wars toys really took off so space toys were also of interest to me.

Excited to see a movie too!
 
As Whitman noted, this was discussed almost a decade ago and nothing ever happened. So, I'll have my suspicions until I read some "production reports".

Still, if true, I'm thrilled! Major matt Mason was my FAVORITE series of toys from the latter 1960s other my Remco brand, battery powered "Lost in Space" Robot (used in the show itself to depict "The Mechanical Men" from the second season).

Recently, I encountered an artist who works with Poser and he created props and textures that could turn Michael 4 (a digital figure from DAZ3D) into a reasonable recreation of the figure. Learning that I, too, adored the toy, he was kind enough to share the assets with the 3D hobbyist community. I adapted his concepts to dress a 3d version of a personal character (the one from my "dead" web comic) in a Matt Mason type spacesuit. had the web-comic continued, I probably would have drawn Mzzkiti wearing the Mercury mission inspired EVA gear.
 
I guess I did have the blue suit, because I know I had the Black astronaut-- I thought he had the yellow suit, though. Of course the heads were interchangeable....

The only time I've encountered "MMM" was a passing reference in "Children of the Gods?" when Sam, Feretti and Kawalsky talked about having them as kids.
 
We live in the age of Hollywood only wanting to green light films with huge brand recognition. Whether reboots, sequels or adaptations of other media.

It’s kind of refreshing if this gets made. An older brand that has little knowledge beyond a certain age. Clearly Tom Hanks is driving this. Plus a renewed interest in films based on fictional or real space exploration staring big name actors. There been a number of those the last few years.
 
The toys were a bit before my time, but I'm familiar with them vicariously through a combination of '60s comic book ads and a couple of them showing up as set décor in David's room on Dark Shadows:

^^ I had them both. That's the space station that my Uncle Mike gave me.

Micronauts! Loved those things. The first twelve issues or so of the Marvel comic were pretty cool, too - Michael Golden's art really captured the aesthetic of the Micronauts, IMO.

I had some of the Micronauts toys, but I never read the comics. I made up my own mythology for them, in which they were the operatives of an unseen creator/mentor figure named Dorgon. When Power Rangers came along some years later with a mentor named Zordon, I felt a bit of deja vu.

I still have a couple of Micronauts "Time Traveler" figures, somewhat the worse for wear and multicolored because they're Frankensteined from surviving bits of broken ones. I occasionally use them to choreograph action scenes when I write.
 
I only owned one G.I. Joe (blond hair) I got as a Christmas present in the late 1960's. Though my cousin had several G.I. Joes, Action Jacksons (knock off Joes), Captain Action (another knock off Joe) and Matt Masons. I loved visiting my cousin.
 
I had Matt Mason, Captain Action and several GI Joes. One Joe was a Japanese version with an anime looking head. Might have been a knock off.
 
The only action figures I collected were the TNG-Voyager Playmates action figures. I have a whole big bin of them in my closet.

I had some Micronauts including Biotron who was pretty cool and very 70s weird. The Six Million Dollar Man had some pretty 70s villains too what with the Westworld knockoff robot, Bigfoot and the Venus Space Probe! I watched that one with the probe not too long ago and it's surprisingly menacing and creepy even now.

Were you a kid or an adult? Probably more figures owned by adults than kids lol. I had a still carded Morn I got rid of that I wish I had held onto, I mean it's a figure...of Morn...for goodness sake.
