Tom Hanks in 'The 'burbs'

Oh god, it's been ages since I saw this hilarious (and very underrated) movie. Someone put the entire film up on YouTube recently, which gave me a chance to see it again since I don't own the DVD.I love this freakin' movie. Out of Hanks' comedies, this along with The Money Pit, I think are his two best.

If you haven't seen or heard of this movie, it stars Tom Hanks living in a small midwestern cul-de-sac in the suburbs. A group of eerie neighbors move onto the block. While the new residents pretty much keep to themselves, Hanks along with the rest of the block begin to think that the new neighbors are serial killers after one of the residents on the block mysteriously dissapears.

The cast is so good. My favorite of the bunch is Bruce Dern, who plays a retired army commando and still goes "by the book" using miltary slang, calling everyone "soldier". I love how he sets up his little communication post on the roof of his house with the sniper rifle. I die laughing when you see Dern up there with the rifle up against the chimney while he sits there and chows down on animal crackers waiting for something to happen.

Such a great, and once again - underrated, movie!

Awesome, awesome film. I have it on DVD, alas a vanilla release though

And it's got Corey Feldman in it, so you know it's good! :D

I was channel surfing and I happened across this movie. I had never heard of it before and was immediately drawn in! I missed parts of it but over all it was very memorable and fun. I really liked it and I should get around to getting the DVD and watching it all the way through.

"Hey, Rumsfield, dude! What are you doing with a gun?"
"Shut up and paint your goddamn house!"
:guffaw:

Whenever I see Bruce Dern in anything else, I can't shake the image of him from this movie. He's just so good.

Corey Feldman is great in this movie. I love how he was always inviting his friends over to watch what was happening on the street - especially his girlfriend who says, "Why can't we just go to a movie?" and he replies, "This is REAL. This is my neighborhood!"

An excellent comedy. The military guy cracks me up. I believe the lady who played his wife is now the voice of Francine on "American Dad!"

Wendy Schaal. She also played the wife of the Doc (who coincidentally, was also in this film as one of the garbageman) in Voyager's, "Real Life".

Seriously, in all of Tom Hanks movie history has a film kick so much ass like the Burbs.

She was almost always paird with Picardo in 80's movies and tv.

Innerspace
Amazing stories

Then Voyager

I saw this in the theater. Checking IMDB, apparently I was 8 years old.

I loved it then and I still love it now, although I've found there are jokes now that I didn't really get when I was younger.

"Art's got a gun!"

"Hey, Pinnochio... where you goin?!?'"

I've always loved this film.

The Money Pit
Dragnet
Big
Forrest Gump
Apollo 13
Splash
A League of Their Own
The Green Mile
Toy Story

All better than The Burbs.

But, granted, The Burbs isn't as bad as Joe vs. The Volcano.

"Heh, about a nine on the tension scale, Rube!"

"There go the goddamn brownies!" (for some reason, this line always cracks me up)

"God, I love this street!"

"That piece of sum dog of yours has just taken his last dump on my lawn! I find one more, just one, I'm gonna catch him and staple his ass shut!"
:guffaw:

"You keep a horse in the basement?!"

Robert Picardo was in most of Joe Dante's films, part of his regular ensemble of character actors, along with Dick Miller, William Schallert, Henry Gibson, etc. (all of whom have done Trek).

Wendy Schaal (whose father is Richard Schaal from the original move THE PRODUCERS (among many others)) is also the voice of the wife on the FOX cartoon show AMERICAN DAD. :)

I never got into this movie, though I know I've seen it at least twice. Gonna give it another look! :techman:
