:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

That's awful! It's like that deleted scene in Terminator 2 where Sarah Conner's sitting on a bench in Washington DC and you see a futuristic building next to the Washington Monument or whatever it was, and that was supposed to be, what, 1997?!

Someone replace Big Ben with a malfunctioning digital clock, ASAP!

You know, I never imagined that when we actually got to the year 2010, The Simpsons would still be on the air.

This is one of the things that makes me sad about the staff of "The Simpsons" not calling it quits when they should have around 2000 (I think seasons 9 and 10 sucked, but 10 years would have been a good number to end on). "The Simpsons" was the pinnacle of 90s comedy. It had no business going further than that, but everyone involved got greedy.

If they'd ended the show when they should have, we wouldn't have all these awful continuity lapses like "That '90s Show" and stuff like this happening would make me happier. We could imagine Lisa's Wedding really happening today instead of the show still being on the air with crap episodes. I know, me = sourpuss. To end on a more positive note, I showed this episode to students when I was teaching and I felt weird when I noticed that date. It holds up beautifully. "Hi Bart! I am weaving on a loom!". I love how square Marge is. :D

There was tons of classic material through season 13 (after that, it's more uneven).

Holy crap! That episode was one of my faves from the entire series! Can't believe it was so long ago!

It makes me feel...uneasy.

Even today, there are some pretty damn good episodes, but it's just that they have to rely more and more on celebrity guests and pop culture references and stuff like that.

So about that wedding. Where's my flying car?

I'm looking forward to watching a certain movie on a certain crisp October afternoon about five years from now when I get home from work.

The first year that made me say, "Ooooh, we've reached a science fiction year!" was 1999. I'm just glad the Moon didn't going flying out of Earth's orbit. Two years later, I _really_ felt it, when we reached 2001, but without the proof of alien life and the sentient computer and the manned Jovian missions.

And as for The Simpsons, I know that the prevailing winds on the internet say that the show has jumped the shark, but I say that it hasn't. I think I spotted a fin on the horizon once or twice, but the show, IMHO, has yet to slip on the skis and head for the ramp. House, on the other hand.......
