In season 3 of ST Discovery, I could not fail to notice commander Burnham’s new “hair.” Since human hair only grows at 1/2″ per month, and her new hair for this season 3 is almost 2 feet long (excluding the length shortened by the braids), WHERE DID SHE FIND A WIG OR A WEAVE IN THE FUTURE? She must have found a corner store somewhere selling weaves. There is NO WAY she grew that hair out in a YEAR. Not saying it does not look “good,” or more like a human woman is supposed to look like… but I thought Star Trek is the last place I would find cultural appropriation. Just keeping it real. Her hair looked “natural” in seasons one and two. Why change it based on a false pretense of UNOBTAINABLE length for a WOMAN of color, of a non-mixed genetic background? Just trying to keep it real, right Sheneneh?
P.S. Can we really expect to see different phenotypes in 300 years (bonus question)? Or will we all just be mocha? I am sure Gene is giggling a bit.
