I sure didn't ask anyone's permission when I started drawing things I saw on TV. I never asked Paramount's permission to draw the Enterprise and I never tracked down the authors whose writings inspired me to try writing. How is this any different?

Well there is a certain level of debate when it comes to the "work" that AI is creating, as some of it seems to be outright stealing rather than really creating something new (if derivative). At least this was the case when I was reading up on this stuff a while back.

Plus, if you host a website and specifically opt out of bot scraping or whatever the right terminology is, but they are disregarding that, then that's pretty bogus of them.

But I admit I'm far from an expert on all this technical wizardry.
