I have often wondered, the Star Trek that I am, if the later shows (DS9-Voy-Ent) suffered from not having a vocal intro. Both TOS and TNG have the 'space the final frontier' thing going on in the opening title. It pretty much sets the premise of the show, at the start of each show, but also became famous on its own merits. It will be one of the most anticipated events of the new movie, whether at the start or end, to hear it said by whom ever says it...
I think DS9 could have been served with a vocal intro as well, spoken by Avery Brooks. And since the tone of the show changed over the years, they could have modified it like they did with Babylon-05. I think this would have helped with sydication, so as to give a viewer some idea where the story was....
Voyager should have had one too, in fact they should have all had an intro specific to their show. Pandering as though it might have seemed, I still think it would have been a great idea....
Instead, it's like we 'boldly go...poof!!"
