I was playing around with Lego's Digital Designer program. It's really nifty, You have access to unlimited numbers of each piece they have, and you can use it to custom order sets of whatever you build. It even generates instructions.

Anyway, this kinda looks terrible, I'll admit, but it was fun and I thought I'd share.

I'm thinking of adding the smooth pieces to the top. You know, the thin flat ones that don't have knobs.

^Good start. Try make it bigger.

That way, you would be able to make it more detailed and have proper silhouettes and appear more like the shuttlecraft we saw on TNG...

It looks like the model would be about 6 or 8 inches long. I wonder what a 3 footer would look like :)

I was thinking about making it bigger, but I'm not a very skilled Legoist (is that even a word?)

This thing was kind of a pain, trying to get it to follow the shape I wanted. I'm not sure I'd personally have the patience for a larger one. But I'll think about it.

I think the other issue with Lego Trek ships is that most of the ships are kinda spindly, and while I could probably make it work in the Lego Digital Design program, if I ever decided to order a custom set, it would be a disaster. The Runabout would probably be ok, since it's largely a brick anyway. As would maybe the... Miranda Class... Steamrunner... Possibly the Akira... Nebula... and Defiant. But anything with long pylons, like the Enterprise, might not be so easy.

The nacelles are too far out - they should hug the body. You don't need the big wide flat piece at the top of the pylons - maybe one or two studs wide, that's it. The rear also needs to taper like the sides, just not as much.
