TNT greenlights Dallas remake for summer 2012

I guess I'm the only one who thinks this news is badass!

If it's successful who knows what other old shows could come back? (I hold out hope for the Duke of Hazzard to return with the original cast and several new young'uns)

It's the return of the 80's prime time soaps.

What's next, Dynasty II? Falcon Crest: The Next Generation?

Just as long as we don't get Lace III.

Eh, would rather someone air or stream the first 5 seasons of the original. Seriously. Are all of the original's seasons even out on DVD? Didn't they stop at 3 for a bit?

Larry did an episode of NipTuck where they put a pump in his penis so that he could make love to his young, very young, young, young wife...

As a kid I loved the prequel "Dallas the Early Years", and "recently" I enjoyed the Revenge of JR a telemovie...

So is JR's kid going to be Jock Ewing III, or JockJunior Junior?

When he was born, JR said "John Ross Ewing the Third".

They called him John Ross in the original series.

Yep. "Jock" was just a nickname that John Ross I used.

Is it really that hard to go to amazon or wikipedia and type "Dallas".

Now that I think about it, I believe it was Jock that said "John Ross Ewing the Third" when the kid was born.

I'm actually looking forward to this as I grew up watching the original. I had a few thoughts a year or so ago on what an actual continuation, remake or whatever, would be like, which was similar to the TNT series. The focus would be on Christopher and John Ross all grown up and fighting over Ewing Oil. But I'd have reversed the conflict of J.R. and Bobby.

In other words, Christopher would've been more J.R. than Bobby while John Ross would be more Bobby than J.R. Flip the audience's expectations.

It was.

That trailer was excellent. Its good to see Bobby all angsty. He more than any of them has reason to be.

Say what you will, but everyone loves something they shouldn't and Dallas is my "something." I have very fond memories from my childhood of being allowed to stay up after "The Dukes of Hazzard" on Friday nights to watch "Dallas" with my parents...

Anyway. A couple of things:

Jock was John Ross Ewing I.
J.R. is John Ross Ewing II.
John Ross is John Ross Ewing III.

2) Christopher is not Bobby's biological son. Pam was unable to conceive after her miscarriage in the miniseries. Later, J.R. had an affair with Sue Ellen's sister Kristin, who wound up pregnant. For a while it was generally understood that Christopher was J.R. and Kristin's illegitimate son. Bobby and Pam wanted to adopt Christopher, but Christopher's true father appeared to extort Bobby, who paid him off in order to adopt Christopher.

3)In the penultimate or final season of Dallas, (I can't recall which) Clayton Farlow comes back to hand over the deed to Southfork to Bobby. Further, it was a series-long story point that the Ewings (JR in particular) knew there was oil under Southfork but Jock and Miss Ellie always refused to allow drilling on the ranch as it had been her family's home since she was a little girl. The real life reasoning for this, partly, was because Barbara Bel Geddes left the show in the last two years and didn't come back so the writers had her and Clayton go on extended vacation in Europe.

If the new series reflects this (and the events of the reunion movies), it makes sense that J.R. would try to get control of the ranch back in order to levy it (and its oil) to take back control of Ewing Oil, which, last we knew, was owned and controlled by Bobby and Sue Ellen.

I really, really hope they find a way to bring back Cliff Barnes and his daughter at some point too. Can you imagine the shitfit JR would have if John Ross and Cliff's daughter wound up together?

Now, assuming anyone else besides Holdfast knows what I'm talking about, let me close with this disclaimer:

Before anyone gives me shit about knowing all of this, I'll just say that Dallas fans are a whole lot less annoying than some Star Trek fans.

Carry on.

Cool, that trailer convinced me to check out the show. And I never was a Dallas fan...watched for the Who Shot JR hooplah and then kinda lost interest.

Sue Ellen and Bobby are still sexy. :bolian: I guess they couldn't get Victoria Principal to reprise her role.

See, I don't even know stuff like this! :D So John Ross and Christopher are cousins via their moms. Interesting.

they all ways had the best fueds on dallas.

^ And catfights, don't forget the catfights.

Wasn't there some running thing about an annual Southfork BBQ where somebody - or a lot of somebodys - always ended up in the pool? :D

Never really watched the show when it was originally on, but its was such a cultural phenomenon it feels like I did.

'Cuse me that I was unaware they just finished releasing the DVDs this April. I knew there was something funny about them, they mis-number the miniseries with the volumes so it's off by one.

I seriously think that if TNT wants this one to succeed, they should re-air the original to get folks in the spirit. I happen to be partial, as I am named after Kristin Shepperd.

Usually, yes. But the thing that also always seemed to happen was that weddings at Southfork tended to always be disastrous, rained in, or be the site of some major revelatory bit of trivia or melodrama.

Not sure how it could be that confusing. CBS packaged the mini series and first season together as one set, and labeled it the "First & Second Seasons," so each succeeding season was labeled by one number ahead. If anything, one would be surprised to find a "Fourteenth" season when technically, the show had a mini-series and then thirteen seasons afterward.
