TNG & Voyager LCARS

What's with the numbers and letters? Wouldn't it be easier to just have words? Those codes are very confusing.

Re: ST TOSMOVIE Graphics

This guy does an admittedly good job tracing and redrawing the work of Mike Okuda and other artists. It strikes me as a little weird, however, that he insists on putting his name so prominently on the designs, much more prominently than the people who actually did the designs. Hardly a way to say that you admire someone's work.

Re: ST TOSMOVIE Graphics

Not really a constructive comment, skylark. Resistance3 is doing considerably more than "tracing and redrawing" others' work - consider it more 'inspired by.' Nothing wrong with that - George Lucas was inspired by Kurosawa, but he still started Star Wars off with a pretty prominent "Lucasfilm Ltd. presents ...".

Still though, he has a point. I'm not saying Resistance3 doesn't have the right to do so -- hell, I'd probably be doing the same thing. But compared to other artists who post their work here and elsewhere on the net, its certainly more prominent.

Though I agree, Jose does a lot more than just "trace".

Re: ST TOSMOVIE Graphics

This guy's main calling card is that he has, VERY precisely, duplicated the designs and style of another artist. And he's claiming credit for it. That's a lot more than simply being "inspired" by another artist. Lucas didn't just copy Kurosawa's films, nor did he duplicate Kurosawa's style.

Re: ST TOSMOVIE Graphics

You see stuff like this is what upsets me. This person has no idea what he or she is talking about. The thing that upsets me the most is this. He or She thinks I have no respect for the work that Mike Okuda, Rick S Doug D… Just to name a few of them do. Now this person sounds a lot like a person on another forum. It may be him. Anyway.. I find it funny that this type of thing dose not comes up with 3D Models. Why is this a 2D thing? Now if this person is right. Shouldn’t people who make 3D models give credit to Matt J. and the other TOS Artist?

Now anyone who has been to my site or forum knows how I feel about the artist on Star Trek. The last thing I would every want to do is disrespect them. I got into 2D Art because of What Mike and Rick did. I got the TNG tech in Middle school. In the book on page 36. (Footnote) That little bit of text is what got me into 2D. I spent 3 days just downloading a demo of Illustrator. So I can learn the same tools that where used on the show. I took me years to get good at it. It’s not like I took images it into Illustrator and let Illustrator remake it for me. Did Illustrator spend Hours trying to find the right colors? Was it Illustrator who made sure that every text was the same as the ones seen in the show? Why do people remake the 1701 Enterprise? Because they love the ship! Why do I remake the graphics that are seen on the show? Because I love the graphics! Now if you check out the other pages in this thread you can see that I have made A LOT of original work.

Now I will not talk about this any more. I do not have time for a silly person like this.
I have no idea why this person has made it his or her point to harass me. Maybe it’s Jealousy? Who knows, but all I know is that this post has nothing to do with the work. It’s nothing more then harassment. I will leave it up to Ptrope to deal with this. If I see this keeps on… I will just not post here anymore.

Re: ST TOSMOVIE Graphics

Its jealosy Jose. Don't worry. Your work gets me randy at the very least.

I have known Jose for quite a while now, and consider him a good friend. Trust me, he does NOT trace or copy anything... EVERYTHING you see here has been done 110% by him, and him alone. He has nothing but the utmost total esteem and respect for both Mr. Okuda and Mr. Sternbach. This is a labor of love for him, and I for one am nothing but thankful for his contributions to the Star Trek art world, as well as the contributions of all the great and talented artists we have on this and other forums.

I don't have a problem with someone learning from the stuff I did, be it CG meshes or models of hardware I designed for the franchise or graphics I worked on in the Okuda-established style. Heck, even I traced and painted scenes from 2001: A Space Odyssey to get familiar with space-type equipment and lighting. I should say that I don't know how Mike feels, and won't presume to speak for him.

What I would love to see, more than people getting the 22nd or 23rd or 24th century graphics (Starfleet or otherwise) absolutely nailed, is to get in there and evolve the stuff. Push it along. Make changes. I just started getting comfy with evolving a lot of hardware toward the end of Voyager, and I wish I had done more sooner. I've been fooling with post-Voyager gear and graphics since 2001, just to keep the design chromosomes simmering, and I can tell you that a lot can still be done with this universe.

Re: Norway (U.S.S. BUDAPEST) MSD

Yeah I made a few anumated graphics..

Here is the MSD for the Budapest. Still needs tons of work, But I am happy with the layout. I will change a few things, But not much. As for the details seen in the ship. It will be the same as the Enterprie-E and by that I mean ALOT of detail. I am just happy that its not a big ship.
