I finished up Persistence of Memory just a few minutes ago.
My Review from Goodreads:
Another great Star Trek novel from David Mack. I'm going to go ahead and start with the elephant in the room, Data's return. What makes a ressurection work is the execution, and here that execution worked great. I love the fact that we didn't simply get the same old Data back, instead we've got him in a new upgraded body with new capabilities, and all of his father's memories. I can't wait to see where they take Data 2.0 in later stories.
The present day scenes of the investigation into the missing androids and the conflict with the Breen were great. David Mack has always written great action scenes, and the ones here did not disappoint.
The real standout though was the Noonien section. I loved the fact that it was written in first person. You don't come across that style very often in Trek books, but it really worked here. Since his storyline was very personal it was nice to be able to really get in his head, even more than we would have if the story had been told in first person.
The only thing that disappointed me was Choudhury's death. I kind of like the fact that was sudden and even though I knew she died it still managed to shock me since I didn't know the details. I love it when a book can surprise me like that. At the same, I really liked the character and would have liked it if she could have gotten a heroic, dramatic death.
I gave it 5 out of 5 stars there, and voted outstanding here.
