TNG Sequel to 'A Piece of the Action'?

I heard that David Gerrold wrote one. In it, Picard and crew visit Sigma Iotia II from "A Piece of the Action", only because of McCoy's communicator being left behind, the planet is now a culture of TOS Starfleet (everyone wears Starfleet uniforms, all planetary communications are on Starfleet frequencies, etc.). Picard is even put on trial by the Iotians - for being "anti-Kirk".

Was this script ever written? Was there any truth to its supposed existence?

I also heard that DS9 considered doing this plotline as well for Trek's 30th anniversary, but decided on "Trials and Tribble-ations" instead.

No idea about TNG, but yes, that was a serious plot idea for the DS9 episode.

This is true, it was to be done in the 7th Season, but TNG produced "Emergence" instead. That was a bad move!
I heard Ron Moore was in charge of this ..not Gerrold.

Is Ron Moore anti TOS and Anti Shatner ? A sequel episode to a Piece of the Action would have been a good story and a wink to the original series. By the way his version of BSG worked for a while but in the end run was too depressing.

^ Is that the one about "The Trial of James T. Kirk"? I remember Bela Oxymx shows up in it. He returns McCoy's communicator, saying that the Iotians didn't do anything with it other than put it away for safekeeping.

^Yep that's the one. Oxmyx says they keep the "blower" for safe keeping and that Kirk had some nice threads. I love the panel in which Spock is explaining the Iotian/Ganster terminlogy to Sarek.

Sarek: "Blower?"
Spock: "Communicator."
Sarek: "You are fluent in this language?"
Spock: "One had to adapt. We also drove a flubber."
Sarek: "No doubt."

Gorden Purcell's pencils and Arne Starr's inks really shinned with the expressions on all their faces, including Kirk and McCoy. Not to mention Peter David's singular wit.

My sister bought me that copy when I wasn't really into comics, the Spock/Sarek exchange was amusing. As was Kirk's remark to the security man that Oxmyx killing him on the spot would be merciful

No, not at all. Ron Moore was a huge TOS fan, which is how he came to write the spec script for "The Bonding".

The "A Piece of the Action" sequel situation was also speculated in the book "Worlds of the Federation" by Shane Johnson, in which a sketch of a typical Iotian was depicted as wearing a replica of a Starfleet uniform. ie. instead of copying Chicago gangster mobs the populace had moved to copy Starfleet.

The main reason DS9 went with a sequel to "The Trouble With Tribbles" instead of some other episode was that, while the writers were speculating on which TOS guest actors were still alive (and working), Charlie Brill (Arne Darvin aka Barry Waddle) walked into the restaurant!

Marvel's Star Trek Unlimited series also did a sequel to the episode. In it, the Iotians did wear the old-style uniforms.
