This is my first post here. I am 50 years young and have been watching Trek continuously for 40+ years so know this as I offer my thoughts on TNG's Season 7, which I just re-watched on Blu-Ray.

My overall review for this season is "Ho-hum how average can a season of Trek be?"

Other then great episodes like "The Pegasus", "Lower Decks", "Journey's End", "Preemptive Strike" and of course the best series final of all time, "All Good Things" this season is actually quite disappointing as a whole.

I have completed re-watches of all Trek many times and I always think this season is better then it is, that is until I watch it again.

"Sub Rosa", "Masks" and "Emergence" are actually almost un-watchable unless you are love Trek (as I do) and you going through a re-watch.

I rate each episode of Trek 1 through 5 and this season is my fourth lowest ranked one in the franchise. The worst ranked in order from worst is TNG Season 1, Season 2 and DS9 - Season 1.

What do you think about Season 7 of TNG? Am I to harsh?

Season 7 is generally considered pretty weak other than a handful of great episodes (I would include Gambit and Parallels as great ones). It was pretty clear they were running low on ideas. A few of the core creative team were already moved to DS9 and they spent a lot of the season just bringing out family members or really reaching for premises.

Personally, I don't think Season 7 was any worse than Season 6. They're both a step down from S4/5 and do have a tendency to turn Star Trek into a Soap Opera :ack:, but still have a lot of watchable episodes.

I liked Masks. One of my favorite TNG episodes in fact. 'Thine Own Self' is also in my top 10. Phantasms and Genesis are guilty pleasures of mine. Mystery/Anomaly eps: :techman: Political/Soap Opera eps:

I used to hate Gambit, but when I did my TNG marathon last year I was surprised how much I liked it. Same thing with 'Time's Arrow'. They're just fun to watch. Unlike Sub Rosa. That one.... I have no words.
