Picard setting traps for the other mooks for them to get killed by the sweep just saved Kelsey the trouble of killing them herself. There was only room for one on that shuttle, apparently.

Riker nearly takes care of the two captors single-handedly, and simply while trying to "create a distraction". Hard to believe he and Data couldn't have taken care of them without need for the business with the visor. Then again, Data's super-human speed and strength are almost never used in these situations.
