TNG Returns!

The new deal comes as rumblings about another Star Trek series, featuring Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation's Capt. Jean-Luc Picard, have been heating up. Sources say Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, who left Discovery after season one, are attached to the Stewart-led reboot. CBS TV Studios declined to confirm the Stewart project as sources say a deal is far from completed and may not happen despite the fact that the actor recently teased his potential return to the franchise.

ever since XFiles came back i been thinking this would happen. with Stewart as Admiral Picard. Capt Riker of the Ent F, maybe Wesley as the ExO.

Expectations not high, but hope if it does happen, it’s not just Pat.

The whole crew would be nice, even Wes. Data could return having been found unscathed in the debris of a Remen battleship. Forget the B4 nonsense.

In order for this to have any success and not just be another Nemesis, several things -- in this ST: TNG fan's opinion -- need to happen:

[li]Nemesis needs to be forgotten; the slate needs to be wiped clean of that, just like the new upcoming Terminator film is reportedly chucking everything after T2 (thankfully!). This means we could get a good and proper wedding for Riker and Troi, which can be lead up for a believable courting; not some shitty forced romance with a "Yuck" beard kiss and Picard telling Data to shut up at the wedding. That would also remove the retconing of Wesley. who left Starfleet with the Traveler. Bonus: shit-canning B4!

[li]Original producers and writers -- please, none of these new people who don't seem to get Trek. As long as Rick Berman is not allowed near this.

[li]Same for composers. If we don't get any original TNG composers (including the ridiculously fired Ron Jones) in, it'll be a huge disappointment.

[li]Just like other actors and actresses who have gotten into shape for sequels many years later, Brent can get back into shape to, and only now we can use technology to de-age him -- there's no need for Data to be killed off now that technology has caught up.

[li]A proper plot with the Romulans (maybe giving a hopeful send-off like The Undiscovered Country).

[li]No silly and shoe-horned cameos of other ?Trek series characters. Let's keep things focused.

[li]No political commentary paralleling today or and social commentary trying to force certain subjects being dealt with today. This is supposed to -- hopefully -- be fun.

[li]Have a point to it all. Just don't go back there for going back there's sake like the last two new seasons of "The X-Files".

[li]Please, for all that is holy, no more big wars. It's old!

[li]The writers need to re-watch all the series and get a feels for the characters again. there's no excuse also, to get facts wrong -- even back during D.S.9. the internet was there, and there is no shortage of sites brimming with all the data they could want. Also, they can post anonymously on a website, like this one, for answers. We're here to help!

Brent has said he doesn't want ro come back

However his aging could be explained by him modifying his appearance to more closely correspond to his age or something...like how he hadnthe grey in his hair in the finale

I've seen Spiner. There's nothing there a good make up artist couldn't compensate for. That said, they don't need to all come back.

I don't mind tbh. If they want to have a crack at TNG sans Berman, work away. I've alot of practice with my head canon skills in recent years cutting out the Trek I don't like. So if they screw it up, viola!, it never happened. :p

He had a lock of grey, and it was an alternate future.

Picard: "Mr. Data, what have you done with your appearance?"

Data: "Sir, I have noticed all my ship mates have grown old while I remain young, so I have greyed my hair."

Picard: "Um, I understand. What about your stomach?"

Data: "I have also noted they have gotten fat, so I have added extra padding to various parts of my body."

Picard: "What about your face?"

Data: "To better fit in, I found it necessary to grey the hairs, add wrinkles, and some liver spots."

Picard: "Wel, I get all that, by why are you so slow?"

Data: "I slowed down my reaction times to better fit the aging crew members."

Picard: "Ah, Mr. Data, do you perhaps think you've gone too far?"

Data: "No, sir, according to people on the internet, it works."

Hmm.. Picard seems to be just a rumor at this point, but the part about CBS developing multiple, concurrent shows sounds solid and is exciting!

I could cope with a CGI Data, looking exactly as he did at Farpoint. Prefer it even.

If Spiner can’t do the voice, just say Data’s voice box is damaged and have him speak through songs and sound bites. Worked for Bumblebee.
I agree with you, I feel they can do good enough now with animation, or maybe like have a stand in actor and like edit him to look like our old dear Mr Data? I can't see everyone coming back, like how would it really make sense after so long a time?

What I'd really rather even see more, I was talking to a friend about this, would be voyages of the USS Pasteur with Captain Beverly Picard. She could be taking them on medical missions and such, it could be like a medical drama series in Star Trek on a warp speed travelling hospital. Her husband Jean-Luc could totally be in that series.

I'm optimistic. :) One thing I disagree with the consensus about is ignoring Nemesis/bringing back Data. Frankly I think the whole point of B4 (certainly as presented in the deleted scenes and novelization) is that the memory engram transfer wasn't meant to *overwrite* him with Data -- Data wasn't intending to die at the point he performed the procedure lol -- but simply as a "jump start" for B4 to begin developing as a individual personality like Data and Lore before him. So I'd say dangle that carrot in front of Brent Spiner: come back to TNG as B4, the chance to return to the fold but with the excitement of developing a brand new character in B4. Brent only expressed boredom in playing Data, he never said he was tired of being in TNG. ;) And I'd rather something actually be made of B4, rather than the easy option of ignoring him like so many of the post-NEM fiction has done.

They could all be re-united (if the actors/actresses signed on) by some mystery, wherein Picard trusts his fellow long-gone crewmen (now having moved on to either an admiral, or more realistically -- since his love of archeology was espoused over the course of the show -- he has become an archeologist). Having no ship of his own, he'd have to use Riker's.
