This sounds awesome.
Bleeding Cool has a review of the comic, giving it 9 stars out of 10. "It’s always a treat to read a Peter David Star Trek story, and our only regret after reading this issue is that it’s not part of an ongoing series. This is Trek done right."
Oh, I totally forgot about this. I hope my local shop got it in because I didn't ask them for it.
If they don't, Diamond still has (a lot) of copies in stock, so it can be special ordered if need be.
I haven't enjoyed a Peter David Trek novel for awhile (I think it might have been Imzadi 2: Electric Boogaloo), but his Trek comics have always been excellent (DC's second series remains my favorite Star Trek comics done anywhere, by anybody), so this is a must have for me. JK Woodward's art is usually excellent (and you're right about his style resembling Jerome K. Moore's; I'd never noticed that before), so I'm really looking forward to this.
Agreed! I always wanted to see him do a full issue of a Trek comic instead of just the cover art.
FWIW, the Eaglemoss model is based on Doug Drexler's rushjob CG made for the Stargazer novel covers. It in turn was based on Picard's Ent-A kitbashed Ready Room model rather than the actual Stargazer filming minature, which had different proportions and details.
It doesn't excuse such an awful model, but that's why it turned out like it did.
It's not remotely compatible with Mike Friedman's novels. The way I read the issue...
...it's an early mission for Picard as captain of the 'Gazer, not necessarily the first. The text box that opens the issue suggests a placement of 2243, twenty years before "Farpoint," which is clearly wrong given what we know of Picard's career as Picard commanded the 'Gazer for twenty-two years.
It's a nice story. A diplomatic mission goes wrong, and an injured Picard has to do some quick thinking to avoid more bloodshed. Beverly Howard's presence makes sense in the story, and the ending is both fannish and amusing.

He's done a lot of full issues for IDW's Trek comics, he did the first three issues of the Dr. Who crossover, which went out of print after IDW lost the Dr. Who liscence, the Klingon issue of Alien Spotlight and the Jellico issue of Captain's Log, both written by @KRAD, the Pike issue of Captain's Spotlight, all five issues of the miniseries based on Harlan Ellison's original City on the Edge of Forever script, and all five issues of TNG: Mirror Broken.
This is correct. And, I'm not a big fan of his art style. That whole "painted" look doesn't do it for me.
So I guess we finally have a definite answer to the "Does Rank Have Privileges in the Future?" thread.
I don't really see it. Judging from this piece, Jerome's style is a lot tighter and more detailed, and he's a LOT better with likenesses.
(Sorry for not calling him "Moore," but since I talk to him practically every day on one FB group or another, not calling him "Jerome" or "JKM" seems weird to me.

The fact that Bleeding Cool likes it is a big demerit in my book. That whole site is muckracking, unsubstantiated rumors, and trying to generate fights between comics pros. They're the TMZ of comics.
