TNG films just lacking

ST:TMP -- Lacking in style?

I disagree.

And I think the pacing of the Director's Cut is just fine. ST:TMP is one of my favorite movies...period.

As far as "Style", it set the visual standard for all Treks to follow.

I'd say that's pretty "stylish".

In regards to ST I, it is personally my least favorite of the first six films. I don't believe it is bad. The F/X were spectacular in terms of construction the Star Trek Universe that we became accustomed to in the later films. What bothered me about that film was how it is anti-climactic in the end. The Enterprise spends a movie eternity building up the entry into V'ger and at the end, the Enterprise simply appears over Earth and V'ger is gone.

My problem with the film IS the last act.

What? You mean to tell me these aliens were sooooo advanced yet couldn't seem to manage to wipe dirt off a nameplate?

But, as I said above, I like the film...I like what it tried to do...and I like it because they didn't try to cram a lot of silly humor into what was a dire situation given the premise. And more...I like the way it's basically a "mission movie" like one of the episodes. What I think hurts Trek are these stories that are purely about the big three of Kirk, Spock and McCoy. I prefer the stories of exploration and encountering strange new life forms...etc. I also happen to be a big fan of episodes like The Doomsday Machine and Immunity Syndrome...and this film is pretty close to those in style.

Overall, I like the film -- the Director's Cut is one of my favorite films ever.

It's head and pointed ears above Nemesis and Insurrection -- that's for sure!

At least Illia didn't have a zit.

I'm mixed when it comes to TNG films, I like the fact that there wasn't a arcs so anyone could watch a TNG film and don't need to worry about missing anything;but at the same time after first contact an arc involving the borg ending with Nemesis or a film afterward might have help the TNG film series, perhaps making the final movie as Q final test for Picard greater than the one in All Good Things, ending TNG with a bang. The Titan and Enterprise attempt to save all life in the galaxy ala preventing the alien species like the borg, the dominion or even the romulans from getting some type of power that could end all life i.e the anti-life equation or even an omgea particle-counterpart.

Set the visual style? Don't you mean, 'had the leftover sets the others were forced to use' even though almost all of the other features looked more like STAR TREK.

Nonsense. The Cage was just as much Star Trek as any of the later episodes and its color scheme is virtually identical to that of ST:TMP.

TGT

CAGE is a little drab, but no, there's a lot more punch to it than TMP, mainly because you need to use more light to expose for the stocks of the time and the results are easier on the eye. I would not mistake CAGE for being shot on tape, but there are certainly parts of TMP that have that unpleasant feel.

Generations was a muddled mess to me, even though I liked it, I liked the feel of it. It felt like a movie to me. I enjoyed First Contact and it too felt like a real movie, Insurrection was mediocre and felt like an extended episode, and Nemesis is generally dreadful, lacking movie quality, cliche, devoid of genuine heart and storyline, all in my humble opinion. In fact, I'm watching Nemesis right now for the first time in a long time, and I'm trying to give it another chance. We'll see.

^I'll finally have to give it another chance. I went through my DVD collection and flagged all the titles that I'd bought but never watched, and then promised myself that I wouldn't buy any more DVDs until I watched all these unwatched titles.

Nemesis was one of them. :(

I watched it again last night and when the credits rolled I just shook my head. The whole movie's a mess, from beginning to end. I found that if I just switched everything off in my head, I could watch the movie. Don't think about anything, don't consider the plot, just look at the pretty graphics and watch the chase scenes and explosions. Now, I'm not going to insult people who like Nemesis, because I'm a fan of Star Trek V. All I can say is, well, and how can I say this, it's not my cup of tea.
