TNG E-D recessed windows on bottom of primary hull?

I'm trying to model the recessed windows on the bottom of the primary hull. I have cut the shapes shown on the bottom view into the body an arbitrary depth to see how they corellate with the other views (front, side). I can't tell from the images if they are cut in flat or at an angle from horizontal, or maybe a mixture.

Anyone know?

The top one is what you want. Remember that there are decks above the windows to take into account.

Is this for a physical model or a CGI model? In either case you might refer to this.

These are aftermarket parts for the AMT 1:1400 1701-D kit. Second from the bottom is the exact part you're looking for. Might be a good reference even if it is a CG mesh.

in theory there may be decks there, but on the actual physical models the windows are like your second option, recessed upwards.

here is how i dealt with them, cant believe the timestamp on this dwg is '09 seems like i was fighting with it just last week!

thats the captains yacht there on the left to orient you to the image.

This seems like a question that Probert or Rick Sternbach could answer...

Probert, Probert, Probert! Sternbach, Sternbach, Sternbach!

kind-of already did. Look at the Sternbach or Whitefire plans, the cutaway view. the same window in my post is shown the same way.

i have no idea about that one, never did much reaserch on the smaller model (i was never a fan of the overdone panel lines).

Yeah, that's pretty much the condition of the angles as seen in starboard elevation. There's not a whole lot of human walking about room near those windows, so in the canceled DeAgostini "Build the Enterprise" project, I made Deck 16 accommodate the window wedge as in the attached graphic. And as a bonus, to fix the whole idea of the windows not being deflector emitters, I upgraded the emitters to be clear, so they can be both. Amazing what a little tech can do. - Rick

there's one thing i always wondered about, about what the actuall window itself was supposed to be, how thick etc. since it was just empty space on the show.

any enlightenment on that front?

I think the conventional wisdom on the thickness was something like two feet for the structural hull layers and about a foot for the distance from the inner glass surface to the outer (multiple layers). Sorry, *transparent aluminum*.

Interesting. I watched the videos that summed up that project. It was pretty cool, and I'm sorry it didn't take off. Do you think you will have another avenue to share what you came up with for the endeavor, much like what you've shown us here?

I just watched those videos myself, and was amazed. i would have loved to have that model!
100 pages of blueprints... aww now my keyboard is wet, didnt know my tongue would hang that far!

Thanks Rick for all the info

My UK handler is currently looking into some possibilities; that's about all I can report at the moment.
