TNG Books...who's read them?

Vendetta is my favorite Trek novel, right there with "The Autobiography of James T. Kirk." I read it in one sitting as a teenager. Far better than anything put on screen about the Borg (including First Contact) after TBoBW.
Vendetta I thought that one was about the doomsday machine bigger family member that made the one that was stop with the U.S.S. Constellation N.C.C.-1017 Constitution Class destruction

It almost certainly isn't so it's best we don't delve into it.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Especially on a board that is frequented by so many professional writers you'd have to be pretty thoughtless to come here and actually boast about robbing them of their income.

Though it probably is the only way to get some of them now.
Really, there are actually Trek novels you can't get online, whether used on eBay or as a downloadable ebook?

Used on eBay is just as ethically grey as the dodgy download option, an assuming, as an example, you wanted a full set on your kindle....yes, there are some books you can't get. First Contact (non junior adaptation) for instance. I think Undiscovered Country may also not be available. Kindle is hands down the market leader for ebooks, and for many their only reading option. There's nothing wrong with that. Some books are not available, legally, in kindle or legit ereader format, in some territories. For a non Trek example, I can't legally buy Jurassic Park as an ebook, though I can buy the sequel. Interview With The Vampire, for a very long time was not (and may still not) be available, despite the rest of the Chronicles sitting there. Which, for some, is just a niggle, but for others (for example, those who may have a disability making an ereader their only option, or those who basically don't have space for stacks of books...students in bedsits what have you) its areal disadvantage. I won't even mention the silly arguments about cost or reasonable pricing, not least as, as far as Trek books go...there's been a decent effort to address that. (Sales last year, omnibuses. Less unrealistic prices.)

It is? Someone bought the book, the artist was compensated, and now someone buys the book from this person. How is this a grey area as opposed to someone paying nothing for downloading every Trek novel in existence? Not trying to start a fight here or derail the thread, I'm just honestly curious. :)

Someone usually has to buy the books before they get scanned or have their drm stripped. Granted, you would have to resell the same used copy a bajillion times to have the same effect, but ultimately, it's about scale. So it's the same basic thing...except arguably, no one makes money off the digital dodgy downloads at all, whereas a used book being resold actually generates a cash flow as it travels. Pirates will find justifcations, publishers will find justifications...ultimately, the set up is a pain in the proverbials. Many people have 'dodgy' versions of content they have already paid for because it's the only way to use it for them now, many people will have bought stuff two or three or four times across different formats as it becomes available, many people don't much care or know the difference xD. The Matchbook thing was a great idea, but didn't cover everything or every country....ultimately, this whole thing would be easier if it was as easy to 'rip' a book as it is a CD lol. Anyway....we aren't really supposed to discuss the stuff, so we should all just avert our eyes and mumble and concentrate on talking about which are worth reading, however we came by them.

So, should I not throw them in a plastic bag on my garage floor?
Is this one of those things that will be worth millions after I'm dead and gone?

I was talking about digital downloads. The physical books will always be worth something, and ll books should be well taken care of. (Apart from Martin Amis Times Arrow. I threw that one at a wardrobe.)

Used to have #16 Contamination by John Vornholt where Troi and Worf are investigating the murder of one of the ship's scientists. Don't know what happened to it though. Great story and could easily have seen it as an episode.

So, I guess I've read 25 over a 20 year period that mostly involve the TNG crew. I thought it was more than that.

Remember that, too. Always get it mixed up with the actual TNG episode “Eye of the Beholder” where Troi and Worf investigate a suicide that turns out to be a murder.

I started with the Destiny trilogy and have read all the subsequent TNG, DS9 and Titan books going forward, haven't got into the older ones yet. If you go on Wikipedia and search 'list of start trek novels' it has all of them it seems.

How is the download spoken of different that myself downloading from the local public library? I pay nothing.

Does the author receive a payment every time this happens?

Or just one payment when the library acquires the book?

It would seem to me that the author is losing every time someone downloads or physically checks out a book.

Library downloads are no different than physical copies. It's more likely that a download would have been paid for by the library direct whereas a physical copy could have been donated (but purchased at some point). And they only have so many of either option. I've had to wait to get a downloaded copy from a library. Sometimes a long time depending on demand.
