TMP or Abram's Enterprise, which design is better?

Personally, both have excellence and flaws, I love 'em both, but, NOT as much as the ORIGINAL ship, especially with the remastered detail now visible.
So, do you all have a favourite?

I think I'm being objective, but I think the TMP refit is the superior design. To me, the Abrams' Enterrpise is out of proportion. TMP ship is perfectly ballanced, IMHO.

I have a favorite, but it's nothing TOS produced. Of these, the nuEnterprise is by far the best 1701. The refit is alright, but it has the same basic look as the original Ent (which is a VERY bad thing if you ask me) just with the harmonica nacelles and a deflector that doesn't look like it's supposed to get television. It's better than the original, but the ST XI one is a much sleeker design I think.

The Enterprise refit in TMP is by far, in my opinion, superior to the Enterprise in the new film. The swept-back nacelles give it a much more graceful flow- I was very surprised, given that Ahbrams stated he wanted the Enterprise to look like a dragster, that the new one didn't have the swept-back nacelles. Seemed odd.

It seems to me you are, I agree that TMP refit is better "balanced", and if that's important aesthetically to you, it's a serious concideration. In my case, since the advent of the Millenium Falcon, balance has not been that important to me, hence my acessment that the two basic redesignes are equally appealing.

I have become a fan of the nuEnterprise. It looks like it was built for speed. The lines are more graceful and sleek, IMO.

TMP E-Refit...
Based upon long-term emotional attachment or objective design analysis?

I always felt like the refit E nailed the proper balance between form and function, between fantasy and reality.

It has smooth lines, it has details on close inspection but a simple elegance when viewed from a distance. It is futuristic but doesn't get lost in it. It also feels "real", more so than the NuE from XI.

Now, while I thought the effects work was off the chart for the new film, I think that the NuE's design went to far into "futuristic" and lost the anchor to reality, at least for me.

TOS-E felt too "plastic" to me. Ent-D was good but it depended on which of the filming minitures was being used. Ent-E I did not like all that much. I felt it went too big, and again lost the "real" anchor.

This opinion is on the exterior look of the ship itself only.

Very fair to say, IMO.
TOS-E felt too "plastic" to me.
Even with the remastered FX? I felt that the E was way cooler & more defined without the sloppy (by today's standards) 60's opticals diffusing it's appearance.

I haven't seen the HD of the remastered but it seems hit or miss. Some shots I've seen look more plastic than the original. I have, however seen a few fan done images where it would be a tie to extremely close second to the TMP E.

Professor Moriarty did a bang up job in his Doomsday update.

I suppose it's because I didn't like the slight curvy bit to the NuENT (though it's one of my faves), the TMP refit just barely wins out.

Refit easily. The only things I don't like about the refit is the lack of nacelle cap action and the strongback stuff between the saucer and engineering.

The only 23rd/24th Cen Enterprise I've seen that looks worse than the Abrams is the -d, but that at least is consistent-looking with its lines, as opposed to being a kludge like the current thing.

I greatly, greatly enjoyed the new Star Trek film. I laughed, I cried, I cheered. But I am not a fan of JJ's Enterprise. But, hey, when it comes to Enterprises, there's been, what, 7 or 8 of the bloody things, you can't like all of them. Some of them are bound to be ugly ducks.

So obviously, my vote goes to the gorgeous TMP refit.

I LOVE the Abrams Enterprise, but come on....

The Enterprise refit is a wonderful piece of sci-fi design/engineering.

The Nu-Enterprise is a prop, built at the wrong scale, for the sole purpose of mutilating an icon to represent one man's idiosyncratic take on a cultural force bigger than his imagination.

I've got to give the nod to TMP here.

There's something about the nuEnterprise I really like; I've always been a big fan of the refit, but I really like the nacelles on the nuE, the refit nacelles seem very slight in comparison.

I like the new one. It just looks 'cooler' with the more powerful looking nacells.

Quoted for truth. :techman:
