Titling Trek XI: Just call it "Star Trek"

The first Trek movie was subtitled The Motion Picture, and then onward with subtitles such as The Wrath of Kahn, etc.

Since Trek XI is a reimagining of sorts of the franchise (film and TV combined), I believe JJ Abrams/Paramount should just simply call the film, Star Trek - and really commence with a fresh perspective.

Um, the official name of the movie is just Star Trek.;)

It's just us internet people calling it Trek XI or Trek 2009 or whatever.

If we're going to appeal to the younger crowd, we should call the movie STAR TREK EXTREME! or ULTIMATE FIGHTING STAR TREK.

STAR TREK

Simple. Elegant. And bereft of a ponderous Roman numeral that helps brand the movie as yet another chapter in a book that many people already consider a publication straight outta Geek City on Virgin Eve.

I suppose it's an indication that I've been here too long that I read that as "a ponderous Romulan numeral."

That's the NEXT movie's plot.

Romulan digits from a shipboard computer gain sentience and stage a coup, taking over the Empire and its fleet.

That explains the extra "0" in the Kelvin's registry!

Like the Joker's card at the very end of BATMAN BEGINS.

Subtle foreshadowing.:shifty:

Indeed. My other half's primary objection to going to see the film with me was that she'd 'never watched Star Trek so wouldn't know what was going on'. Dropping subtitles, Roman numerals, etc etc help to bring in people who might otherwise avoid it as too heavy on the backstory.

OK, I told a slight lie, the primary reason she won't go is cos she thinks it will suck, but dwelling on that would not result in domestic bliss ;)

Best explanation I've heard yet.
