Titles On Screen?

I want every episode name to be ultra pretentious. None of this one- or two- word title bollocks. I want "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" to the tenth power.

This. 100 percent. :techman:

On the thread issue, I kinda hope they have titles onscreen for traditional reasons (also because I'm *horrendous* at remembering episode names on shows that don't do it), but I do understand the argument that, for example, a heavily serialized show doesn't necessarily need onscreen titles, as all episodes are simply meant to be one "part" of an single ongoing serial anyway. Perhaps they could dispense with story titles entirely and go the route of identifying the episodes onscreen with their Stardate instead? ;)

I enjoyed the Incredibles too but it was a period piece that made sense to have some throwback music. I think the old standby Orchestral would work for me. Only time will tell if it's timeless, so that jury will be out for a while.

Lets hope for great stories and then hopefully the production around it matches the story quality.

Star Trek writers have often described the show as a period piece, particularly since they use a house dialogue style that gives the show a quality that's not quite the present. Since cultural trends are cyclical, style seems to be the thing that's easiest to justify as being as close to TOS as possible. That includes the uniforms, signage, exterior ship design, and non-diagetic stuff like music, credits, and on-screen titles.

The thing that would date it most would be to try to look too much like 2017. For example, the monitors on the NX-01 bridge are already out of date, but if they created original screens with a custom aspect ratio, even if cropped by some kind of frame, then it would have looked a bit more timeless. I suppose that would be much easier now, with thinner screens. Ironically, giving it a slightly more 1960s style would place it at least outside the period in which the show was made.

While it is tradition for Trek, since it is streaming and you will see the episode title before you start the episode. I really am okay with them breaking that tradition. But, if they keep them, that's cool too.

Every episode title should be in a foreign language. Start with Latin but definitely include Italian, French and Japanese.

We already had that show. It was called Andromeda and each title appeared to be have been plucked from a play, or line or poetry, as if the producers just threw a book of Milton/Shakespeare into the air, let it splay on the ground and the first line the cat trod on became the next episode title.

Some shows put absolutely no effort into their titles, whilst others, like Farscape made a competition out of it. David Kemper would give a bottle of champagne to the crew member who came up with the best title fitting the theme of the episode.

Hugo - would have loved to have won for Scratch and Sniff

Personally the best titles on TV have got to be either Friends "The One With..." or Hawaii Five-0's Hawaiian titles which I have no idea how to pronounce ha!

On screen episode titles are unneeded, in my opinion. In fact, unless they are cleverly constructed (like the above mentioned Hawaii Five - 0 or Iron Fist's faux martial arts moves) they don't need to exist at all.

Does anyone think that the show will follow the tradition of other Star Trek shows and put the titles on screen, possibly even in the upper left hand corner, after the teaser and opening credits?

Um... What? Are we already out of topics of speculation?
