Title of "The Picard Show"

Anyone think there's any possibility they actually call it Star Trek: The Next Generation? I personally doubt that, just curious. I mean other show continuations have used the same name as the original show, like Dallas, Roseanne and some others that have been a direct continuation and not a reboot, remake or some other such thing. And as far as I know CBS owns the right to that name already so they wouldn't need a new trademark.
When it was first rumoured and before Sir Patrick's announcement, I wondered half-jokingly if it was going to be an X-Files/Twin Peaks-style straight continuation of the original Next Gen series, perhaps even ignoring the movies.

The rest of the Next Gen cast have since said they have not been asked to return (literally a crime in the case of Jonathan Frakes, who looks like season one Riker again) and Stewart says it's a very different Picard who's been through some difficult stuff, so I'm guessing not.

I was curious about whether any other cast members would appear. It sounds like it really is going to be a Picard centric show then. Maybe they'll get some of the original cast in as 'special guest stars' in some episodes, in fact, they'd probably almost have to. I think Picard will have to run into some of his old friends from time to time (plus it would make for a good ad for an upcoming episode---next week tune in for to see Admiral Riker help his old friend---something along those lines).

It sounds doubtful that he'll still be commanding a starship somewhere. Sounds more like he'll be some sort of lone wolf.

I'm still curious to see if they incorporate anything from the relaunch novels in the new show. I'm extremely doubtful that will occur but with Beyer on the team it's at least a possibility, however remote.

I think it would be actually more odd if TNG cast members DIDN'T show up. They were obviously a big part of each other's lives for so long. And the odds of Picard still being active in Starfleet and not having at least one of his crew with him seem small. People do that when they move on.

Of course, it has been the same amount of time in the real world since All Good Things. History changed so that obviously, the future that we saw in All Good Things couldn't happen. The E-D for example was destroyed.

But what will be interesting will be whether Picard was able to avoid the dementia. Since a show about loony Picard forgetting things is not likely nor desirable, it will be curious if this is addressed.

And even if no TNG people come in, how can they NOT have Q at least once? Maybe even kick it off as a nice parallel and nod with a Q story.

The title is probably Destiny. They haven't announced it because they are probably considering other titles.

I am sure we will get other TNG regulars to guest star on this show. Kind of like what happened with Cheers characters on Frasier.

I would like to hear more recent answers from the former cast members. When those answers were given they were still writing the scripts and didn't necessarily know who they would need to appear.

I'm willing to bet 1 million quatloos that we will see multiple TNG guest appearances. All due respect to Stewart, but I'm not sure he can carry the show alone.

I don't think he'll be the sole star. The show will probably have new co-stars. But I also think anyone who doesn't expect to see anyone else at all from TNG, DS9, or VOY at some point is in deep denial.

Seeing other TNG characters as guests wouldn't surprise me but then again TPTB seem to be sending out the message that this isn't just "TNG 2.0" or some reunion show.

"Destiny" does seem like a likely title. It's already the title of a post-nemesis novel series and the show is set around the same timeframe though the plot will no doubt be different. "Reliant" to me always seem more likely as a potential title for the proposed "Khan" series, most likely as a reference to the USS Reliant from TWOK.

We'll inevitably see some familiar TNG faces appear due to the same reason we're seeing familiar TOS faces showing up in Discovery. You can't set a new show in the same era of one we know and love without prompting the possibility of guest appearances. That is, Discovery not only takes place in the TOS era, it has Spock's family in it. Of course this meant Spock and the Enterprise would show up before long. Same for DS9 and Voyager with TNG characters. Put Picard in a new series, and it'll be awfully strange for his closest friends / romances / nemeses, etc... not to show up after a while.

That being said, if written properly the show can avoid being TNG-2.0. The model is All Good Things. In fact, I sometimes wonder if this series will basically be in that vein.

We’ll probably see some of them—it’s just I have no interest in doing so.

On the one hand, I would love for the series to be its own brand new thing that doesn't try to shoe-horn in stuff from the previous series, but..... I'd also love TNG 2.0 absolutely equally. As awful as it sounds, I'd love to see our geriatric senior staff still on the Enterprise (or at least, getting back together on the Enterprise) and let them have their senior citizen escapades the same as Kirk and co got to have. I would also be okay with some approximation of the two. I just want it now.

Wonder why they've been holding back the title for so long for the Picard show? Discovery's title was announced early on
Disco's title wasn't revealed until nine months after the series was first announced. So expect a title for the Picard Show to be revealed around May 2019.

For my own reasons, until further notice from the production team, I'm calling it "The Picard Project". If the production team has either gone the same route on their own or chooses to take my label and run with it, either way, I don't mind.

‘Picard’ has grown on me as a name, and feels very modern. That said, given Discovery tried to break away from the ensemble show vibe only to fully embrace it again for Season 2 after viewer feedback, I’m not entirely convinced that the Picard show will be so entirely focused on him to justify his name being the title of the show. From a marketing perspective though, I think Picard would be a great name.
