"Titanic 2" direct-to-dvd sequel out August 2010

isnt that true of any episode of any TV show which either spoofs the movie, or refrences the Titanic in its plot. for example:

Doctor Who - Voayge of the Dammed
Futurama - A Flight to Remember

Douglas Adams' Starship Titanic' for one
Voyager mentioned the liner in The Year From Hell.

I have to side with Rarewolf and Wamdue. I don't see the big deal. Yes, the real Titanic was a huge tragedy and that shouldn't have been forgotten (I actually am one of the 6 people on the planet who actually felt James Cameron showed some class when he called for a moment of silence at the Oscars). But that shouldn't disqualify it from being used as a reference point.

There really is nothing stopping a company from commissioning a Titanic II. They don't because it's considered a cursed name, which I think is the point of the new movie. Just as the Doctor Who use (of a spaceship by the name) also made clear.

Personally, the most offensive Titanic ripoff I've ever seen remains the Euro animated Titanic feature that came out on video around the time of the Cameron movie which had been kiddyfied and contained a blurb on the back cover (and I'm not making this up) promising that it was a family-friendly version of the story in which everyone survives. If you want something to piss you off, that should do it.
