Titan - must read in order?

Hello Everyone!

I was thinking of taking a dive into the Star Trek Titan series, but I’d like to know if I will miss much if I don’t read the books in order. I was thinking of beginning with the “Orion’s Hounds” (the story has really caught my eye).

FYI – I have read all the Star Trek: Destiny series so I have some working knowledge of Ricker and crew.

NO, although it does slightly help, each novel is designed to be self contained and any relevant details can be found if and when needed in the narrative.

Anyway, welcome to the board and as I assume as you're new you've read the new and improved FAQs which is one of the stickied threads at the top of this section, is the question answered in there?

Hard to say. The series is basically episodic, but there are developing character arcs. As a rule, it's preferable to read them in order. However (at the risk of sounding self-serving), I think you could safely read Orion's Hounds without having previously read Taking Wing and The Red King. I was actually writing OH at about the same time that TRK was being written (a little before, even), so its story isn't really dependent on what came before, aside from a couple of character subplots. It could even be considered a "second pilot" of sorts. TW is mainly about wrapping up threads from Nemesis and TRK follows directly on from it; OH is the first novel that shows Titan actually engaged in its primary mission.

Thank you! And yes you all answered my question. Now off to my local Borders for a copy (and some coffee) :p

Christpher - I look forward to reading your work!

Again Thanks!

I'd check on line first before you run off, alot of the older Trek books can be hard to find in the stores.
