Titan crew question (Spoilers from TrekToday)

RonG

Captain
Captain
Wil Wheaton has returned to the Star Trek world, as an assistant chief engineer on the USS Titan, a ship from a book series now seen in the new Star Trek: The Tour which opened recently in Long Beach, California .

As reported on Wil Wheaton's website, Wesley Crusher is back, in a small role on Star Trek: The Tour, where he recently shot a four-minute movie for use in The Tour. "Last week, I mentioned one of those 'so cool I can't talk about it' projects," he explained in his blog. "Today, I can go ahead and reveal what it was: I composed that post about an hour before I put on pointy sideburns and a space suit, brought Lieutenant Commander Wesley Crusher back to life as the Assistant Chief Engineer of the U.S.S. Titan. "

Does this mean that this will be worked into the series?
From what I remember, this
contradicts Wesley's role in the first two A Time To... novels

Comments?

^ I seriously doubt it, especially since, by the end of 2008, there will be six novels featuring Titan (plus two more with Titan cameos), all of which are Wesley-free. :)

I strongly doubt it. The movie won't be "canon" (Just like Star Trek: The Experience" isn't), so the novels won't be required to follow that line. Also, having Wes remain a Traveller is just so much cooler (not to mention more logical) than having him as chief engineer of Titan.

ETA: Curses! Beaten to the punch!

If 'cooler' = 'futile', then I agree. Frankly, I was pleased that Wesley was to appear in NEM, because it meant the character would finally be rescued from the abyss of neglect to which he had been consigned since TNG ended. I was dissapointed that he was written out of the movie and then from the book series (and in a sub-par duology, to boot) in the name of preserving a non-existent character arc.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I would love to see more development of Wesley's character, and since the novels have him remaining a Traveler, I think it would be great to get more background on these characters, through his eyes perhaps, building on what we saw in the A Time To... series. I do not, however, think that it would make much since in the current novel continuity to place him as Asst. Chief Engineer on Titan. Although I am certain that they would appreciate someone with his skill sets in that department!

I have to say, it could be interesting to see what the current "wave" of Trek novelists (KRAD, Mack, DRG, Bennett, Ward & Dilmore, Thorne, Mangels & Martin, etc.) would do with Wesley (could be in either Titan or TNG).

I don't think we've ever scratched the surface of his character, and his experiences as a Traveller could prove a nice complexity to his experiences, thoughts and overall character..

Maybe consign him to an occasional eBook. With six slots open for all sorts of various things, you could have three-eBook microseries about almost anyone or anything.

Isn't it seven? Four TTN novels plus the Destiny trilogy?

And the cameos would be, what, Q&A and the third Shatnerverse "Totality" novel? The latter is already out of continuity with the TTN novel series, even though it uses the same characters.

You're right, it's seven. I can't count. *sigh*

And yeah, the cameos were Q&A and Captain's Whozits.

Maybe a sniper could shoot Deanna, and as she's dying Q makes Riker an offer -- he'll save Deanna's life, but they'll never have been married.

Riker takes the deal.

And when Riker wakes up to the lovely Tasha Yar in his bed the next morning, Deanna's shacking up with the Titan's new assistant chief engineer, Wesley Crusher.

Nah, nobody would ever buy that.

You are right, I won`t. People who read Marvel comics know what Allyn is talking about - no, I don`t appreciate it to be "Dallas-ed", as I call it. :censored:

Fortunately I think I can be very confident that what just happened in a certain Marvel series won`t happen in the Star Trek book universe.

And yet, Pocket did recently rejig what everyone thought they were seeing in "These Are the Voyages..." (ENT) in "Last Full Measure" and "The Good That Men Do". ;)

And Shatner did it for Pocket in the Shatnerverse. Suddenly Kirk was undead. Twice. ;)

I have noticed the winky smiley :) but nevertheless, I want to add that what happened in Marvel is on a much bigger scale than what happened in Enterprise. Also, the Shatnerverse is its own universe. I don`t like the Shatnerverse and don`t read it. I am just glad that these stories are treated as something separate.

So who are the Spiderman equivalents of Wesley and Tasha? I know the baisic idea behind Brand New Day ]but not the who, what, when, where.

yeah, this thread went WAY off topic :)

I think it's a matter of time before Wesley becomes the Green Goblin... (couldn't resist)

I could see someone writing a novel that somehow involves Wesley appearing on Titan for a brief while. Perhaps he's travelling around and ends up on Titan as part of the overall plot of the book... gets himself involved in whatever's going on, and ends up staying on-board either temporarily (for a couple of books) or on a permanent basis.

Lord knows the current creative team of Trek authors have found some interesting ways to resolve on-screen abnormalities.
