Titan book?

I think some of this might be related to the nature of the beast - books. Because there are only a handful of written adventures as opposed to weekly episodes, you want every instalment of the Titan's adventures to be challenging and meaningful, and one way of doing that is placing the crew in such positions of peril that they take casualties (i.e., 'if people die, it's important). But also because there are so few instalments, you basically get a situation where Riker and the Titan suffer casualties or otherwise come close to destruction every time we see them. What's worth noting is that the Titan probably has a whole slew of sucessful missions that go off without a hitch in between the novels; the books represent 'major' incidents in the vessel's journeys.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It's true that more than three months elapse between Orion's Hounds and Sword of Damocles, and there's a fair gap between SoD and Destiny too.

Titan - The one where nothing happened.

Pg 1: Captain's Log: our survey of the nebula is proceeding as planned.

Pg 400: Captain's Log: Our survey of the nebula has concluded as planned. It was a very uneventful and restful time. I managed to catch up on a lot of paperwork. In particular...

I love the authors of 1 & 2, I need to buy #3 so i can read it. I agree Riker was put in positions where he can't be blamed for what happend, though i am not all in agreement with the Donatra situations. He has a duty to keep order bewtewwen the federation and its allies but that also includes the Klingon Empre, Donatra murderd a klingon officer and Riker knows it.

I loved how these books are written, but I feel like the authors of 1 & 2 make the reader (atleast me) feel that Riker does more harm than good. They focus more on the negative things that occure under his command over the great sucess he has had.

I don't recall the circumstances under which he lost his engineer, but I don't recall him being able to do anything about that either.

A large piece of debris from the battle over Romulus came hurtling towards the Titan, colliding and causing a whole crapload of damage. Ledrah was killed by an exploding console right by her, zapping her and pretty much doing it instantly.

its kind of funny how that was the only death that time and it happend to be the Chief Engineer:lol:

I have found the books enjoyble although I sometimes think I need a chart to remind me what some of the new and many species are like.

Also, I was curious- in Orions Hounds I remember Troi at the beginning talking about the great experiment of really multi species crews and the earlier attempt of will decker and the enterprise- does she mean what would have happened if no Vyger or was there some other mission she meant?

It's a callback to some background I laid in Ex Machina. The Enterprise crew seen in ST:TMP (mainly the rec room scene) was very diverse, so in ExM I established that Decker had been responsible for assembling such a diverse crew.

Thanks...Always nice to have people with first hand knowledge around to share:bolian:

Not funny, more...is ironic even a good term?

yea kind of since she was the chief engineer and it was a explosion in engineering that killed her, so yes ironic.

Luckily they just happened to have the one guy in the universe on board who understands Luna class ships better than anyone else! Riker knows his stuff when it comes to his special guests ;)

Mind you, with that logic, after 7 years in the Delta quadrant, and ending up being dragged into another galaxy, you've got to question his decision to keep Tuvok on board. The crew probably shot an albatross for good luck :p

Ra-Havreii was the one who asked to remain on board during Titan's maiden voyage. Considering the fact that they weren't expecting there to be a mini civil war in the skies above Romulus that resulted in a large piece of debris hurtling toward the ship and causing the damage that killed the original Chief Engineer...

I have thoroughly enjoyed the Titan books and personally cant wait for book 5! "raises a glass" to book 5!

I too have been enjoying the Titan series, and am eagerly awaiting the next book. I really enjoy Christopher's writing and characterization in "Orion's Hounds," my favorite book in the Titan series, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next chapter in the story.

As a side note, since I'm new to the board, Love your work, Christopher! "Ex Machina" is my favorite Star Trek novel, and I am constantly impressed by your writing. Thanks!
