Tips on episodes for "Democracy" theme

In our society we had a dictatorship theme this May, but for the September episode/film showing we have the theme democracy.

Since the members are going to vote for which episodes that should be on this day we need a lot more episodes than usual, so that they have some to choose between. We will (eventually) need 6-8 episodes from each TV-series, 1-2 movies and 6-8 episodes from a non-Star Trek TV-series. So you see : We have a lot of work ahead of us.

So this is where I need your help, fellow trekkers! Which episodes would you have in mind for a day marked with "Democracy"? Any loose or firm connections with the theme are welcome. Please, if you can help me out that would be greatly appreciated!

Our episodes so far is:
ENT: Cogenitor
TOS: Plato's stepchildren
TNG: Justice
VOY: Alliances (Janeway: "This isn't a democracy, I can't run this ship by consensus") / The 37's (Everyone voted if they would want to stay on that planet)
Other: Fringe 4.19 Letters of transit / Futurama 2.2 Brannigan, begin again / Stargate SG-1 9.14 Stronghold

TOS: Journey to Babal, the only time we actual see the TOS federation government in action.

TNG: Journey's End, The consequences of a political compromise to end a war. Picard in one scene insists that a relocation not take place, his superior states that she made the request days ago, and the councils anwser was no. Shows that the federation council can make the tough choices.

********

Something that you might point out from the assemblage of episodes over the multiple series is that we usually hear about the federation council, and only rarely anything from the federation president.

VOY Spirit Fol has a similar ftheme. Do the holograms hae the right to know what is going around them?

Ensings of Command: Data has to convince the settlers to get out before the Sheliak take over. He gives a lot of political speeches.

Can't believe no one has suggested "The Drumhead" yet.

It's a great episode that examines individual rights, paranoia, and the dangers of protecting the state taken too far.

Interestingly, there's never been a canonical Star Trek film or episode featuring a Federation election.

There was the DS 9 ep wiheret hey formed a union against Quark. Anybody knows the name?

Flesh and Blood is about liberated holograms.

Some other TOS episodes (in which votes -of some kind- are taken, or in which the people influence a government):

  • The Menagerie. "I must also vote guilty as charged."
  • The City on the Edge of Forever. "This is how history went after McCoy changed it. Here, in the late 1930s. A growing pacifist movement whose influence delayed the United States' entry into the Second World War."
  • Return To Tomorrow. "Risk. Risk is our business. That's what the starship is all about. That's why we're aboard her. You may dissent without prejudice. Do I hear a negative vote?"
  • Turnabout Intruder. "On the basis of these statements, I call for an immediate vote, by the powers granted to me as captain of the Enterprise. A recess is declared, to be followed by a vote."

The DS9 ep you're thinking of is Bar Association, in which Rom and others form a union for a better standard of living, which is forbidden by the Ferengi Commerce Authority.
