Spoilers Timeline of the Voyager Relaunch

Jinn

Mistress of the Chaotic Energies
Rear Admiral
Soo. I figuered that I should wright some explanation stuff but.. I'm not exactly good with that stuff so in short: I wanted to chronologize the Voyager-Relaunch novels.. beacuse they are awesome. Edit: Also they have many "hidden" chronological references in the text. I dedicate this thread (after trampledamage was so kind to change the name. Thanks :)) to find the references and to compile an as accurate as possible day and month based timeline. Edit end.

Chapter 1 is set one day after the Battle of the Gateway. The Historian's Notes state that Atonement starts in March, Acts of Contrition ends according to the Historian's Notes in February, therefore the Battle of the Gateway must take place on the last day of February (which is the 28) and chapter 1 on the first of March.
Seven of Nine was granted 10 days off from Starfleet Medical in chapter 2.
Chapter 3 seems to be set shortly after chapter 1, therefore the first 3 chapters seem to take place on the first of March.
In chapter 18 Julia states that it's the third of April, two days before First Contact Day and this seems to be still within the 10 day limit stuff Seven was granted. A possible answere to this paradox would be that the Earth and the Delta-Quadrant chapters don't take place at the same time or I overlooked something. Has anyone got an idea? Also this smiley :rommie: kinda looks like a Skrull from Marvel Comics. Has anyone got information on what it is supposed to be?

The Timeline so far:

Re: Spoiles - The Timeline of Atonement

I think it was established at some point that Seven had been gone well beyond the 10-day allotment.

Thanks for taking the time to figure out the dates of the timeline! Some novels have very specific chronological references... except they don't mention a calendar date to tie it to. I'm thinking of Shatner/Reeves-Stevens' Mirror trilogy.

The smiley is a laughing Romulan.

Thank you. I probably read to many Secret Invasion Tie-Ins.

Thanks, I must have overlooked that.

I think I've gathered enough information to come to the conclusion that chapters 1-17 start on March 1. and end on March 5. Chapter 18 jumps forward to the third of April and chapter 22 ends on the Day of First Contact.

The timeline in Atonement is pretty straightfoward.

1935 -- the dinner party where Briony witnesses her sister Cecelia kissing Robbie, which she misinterprets completely.

1940-1941 -- the evacuation of Dunkirk, Robbie in the BEF, Cecelia and Briony working (separately) as nurses in London.

Late 1990s -- Briony near death.

The twist, of course, is that everything in the 1940-1941 timeframe, post-Dunkirk, is imaginary. Robbie died at Dunkirk. Cecelia died during the Blitz. Briony imagined all of that for her final novel, to "atone" for how she ruined her life. I've always felt this a very hollow gesture on her part; she destroyed the lives of two people, and writing this book doesn't absolve her of that.

Atonement is the only Ian McEwan book I've read. I enjoyed it. The movie is really good, too.

Ok. So the timeline is:

Atonement Book 1 Chapters 1-17: 1935-1999
Atonement Book 2 Chapters 1-17: 1.-5. March 2382
Atonement Book 2 Chapters 18-22: 3.-5. April 2382

Looking back at my breakdown of the book when I first read it, and I came to a slightly different conclusion on the dates. I see that the story has to break between March and April at some point, but I placed that break earlier than Jinn does, between chapters 12 and 13. I also guessed that the break between April and May took place between chapters 25 and 26. I don't recall the specific events of each chapter to give my reasoning, but when I originally read the book, it made sense to me to seperate the months that way. I wish Kirsten would pop in this thread and set us all right on the official breakdown.

Ok. Thinking about it my break between March and April was pretty random since I didn't have much information noted from my first time reading that novel and searching for words like "days" and "months" in Google Books. Also there were two pretty semi-specific mention of date... What a weird sentence. 1. The Doctor mentions that his first activation (Stardate 48308.2/23. April 2371) is 11 years, 2 months and 29 days ago which would set chapter 11 on the 22. July 2382, therefor this likely refers to his activation in "Relativity".. Of which we don't know the date. The second is that Chakotay says that Kim has been acting First Officer for roughly 100 days in chapter 27. I couldn't find the chapter where he was promoted/first mentioned so but it happened somewhere in AoC (If I remember rightly. I read AoC and Protectors in a short period of time so they kinda blurred together. Fortunatly I read in chronological order of chapters so I could finish all the more recent Voyager novels between the releases of Acts of Contrition and Atonement so I didn't have to wait that long. Where was I..)

This listing of chapters and information on it's place in the timeline may contain random german words that I haven't found with Words Ctrl+H function.

1) I'm glad I'm not the only one to go down to the chapter level of granularity in timeline placement. :p
2) If you presume that Kirsten was thinking of Caretaker as happening at the start of 2371 rather than the later date that the stardate implied, by virtue of it being a season premiere and those normally being placed at the start of a calendar year, then the Doctor's reference fits your timeline a bit better. But I like your fudge of using the "Relativity" activation instead, that's clever. :D

Thanks, the only problem with the Relativity-Theory (pun?) is that the Doctor doesn't remember these events in any other episode, because many of those were filmed before Relativity, leading many people to conclude that the Doctor might got reseted or mind-wiped. Maybe the most recent mind programming stuff brought the knowledge of the Relativity-Activation back to his memory. But that's just a theory. A Star Trek: Voyager Relaunch Novel Theroy. I should stop referencing too much stuff outside of Star Trek...

Except that both DS9 and VGR had short first seasons that debuted in midseason relative to their sibling shows, so they would've started a few months into the year. For instance, "Emissary" takes place shortly after TNG's "Chain of Command." Note that "Cold Fire," which is the 6th episode of season 2 in production order and the 10th in broadcast order, is explicitly only ten months after "Caretaker." Which requires season 1 to be considerably less than a year in length.

Oh, no, Christopher, I meant if you presume that Kirsten's thought process was "Caretaker was the first episode so it was probably at the start of 2371". Like, if that's just what came to mind for her when making that reference from the Doctor, and she didn't realize the error there. I'm not talking about production intentions, but where Kirsten might've gotten that "11 years, 2 months, 29 days" length from when she was writing this. Like, the source of the error could've been that she incorrectly dated "Caretaker" to early-January 2371.

It's probably my experience teaching/tutoring math, but my mind tends to jump to "why might someone have made this particular error" stuff like that when something comes up. :p

We might need a 'companion' book for the Voyager re-launch books. Star charts where all the DQ aliens are located, timelines and so forth, lists of characters etc etc. I know there are some lists in some of the books but it would be nice to have an all in one reference source.

Please.. I didn't know I wanted this but know that I know about it I want it to happen. Please Pocket Books.

So according to Jinn's breakdown, there really is suggested a one month gap in between chapters 17-18. I wonder if that was Kirsten's intent or if we are missing something.

If I can ever get a few more big projects completed on my website, I have actually been contemplating doing a Litverse update to the Star Trek Star Charts of the Delta Quadrant. The Alpha and Beta Quadrants would be far too big a project, but I've always been more interested in the cartography of theDelta Quadrant anyway.

Also, I really like the new Quote function. So easy.

I've actually been putting together my own Litverse cartography of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants as it is in AstroSynthesis (though so far I've been restricting myself to references that can be pinpointed to relatively specific locations before I start branching out to semi-arbitrary placement), so maybe we could team up on that if you get to that point, Ryan.

Is it somehow possible to edit the thread title? I'd like to call this Timeline of the Voyager Relaunch.
