Time Warp: Not worth the, er. time.

Discovery Channel launched a new series before "Mythbusters" this past week called "Time Warp." And infromativational show that records various things with high-speed cameras and the plays them back at "regular" speed the result being the viewer seeing things in detailed slow motion.

For example, in one of the episodes they got the "Will it Blend" guy and put various things inside of a Blendtec blender. One of these being cigarette lighters resulting in a poof of fire. Another segment featured men trained in karate breaking boards with their hands the slow-motion shot showing how muscles rippled and reacted through the chop and impacts.

While interesting and the slow-motion camera work is cool; as I feared on first hearing about this show there's no "plot" to drive the experiments. It's just showing random stuff happening in slow motion and there's so little substance that they often show the same shots prepeatedly to fill the time.

Mythbusters does wacky and cool things all of the time too, and often times using high speed/slow-motion cameras. But their episodes have "plots" that drive the myth testing and an end result that ultimately means something and proves a point.

"Time Warp"? Better suited for a sequence of interesting YouTube videos.

Sort of like "Will it Blend?".
