Time Trap?

Chancellor M'rek

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Curious about this novel since it was written pre-tng and it has to do with 24th century Klingons? SHould i shell out the kindle money for it? What are your thoughts?

Without getting too deep into spoiler-territory, the novel does indeed address how 24th-century Klingons factor into the storyline pre-TNG, and it mostly makes sense. The story is set not long after The Voyage Home, and seems to have been written while TNG was still in the early stages of production, but there is an explanation given for what happens to Kirk in the novel.

Have you ever watched

- The Movie "36 Hours"?
- The Mission Impossible episode "Operation Rogosh"?
- The GI Joe episode "There's No Place Like Springfield?
- the tv movie "Breaking Point" ?
- The Enterprise episode "Stratagem"?

Did you read any old Blackhawk comics from the 50s?

How about the Roald Dahl short story "Beware of the Dog"?

If so, you have already experienced the most interesting aspect of Time Trap.

p.s. TPTB like to claim that Enterprise failed due to fan fatigue, but the fact that they were rehashing such well worn plots for episodes like "Stratagem" and " Dawn" clearly show that the number one problem was writer fatigue, imo.

It's easy to be jaded about Timetrap (one word) now, but at the time it came out, it was a very clever idea. It was released around the end of TNG's first season, so it came out at a time when the audience knew Klingons were Federation allies in the 24th century, but there wasn't a lot known yet about the specifics of that era. So the conceit that the novel was a crossover between the eras was a credible one, and a natural draw for readers. Maybe the execution didn't quite live up to the promise, but it was a timely book in its day.
