Time Squared question...

I was watching TNG episode "Time Squared" and I was a little confused. So the second Picard is from 6 hours into the future, but he traveled back to the past to warn or save the Enterprise after it was destroyed 6 hours into the future. So how did he travel into the past? How was he able to escape, when the Enterprise couldn't...originally? I don't quite get it. As far as I'm concerned, this Picard is the Picard from the Nexus going into the past to warn the other Picard about Soran...the Borg...Q...hahaha...help me please!?!?! :)

Remma how the Enterprise exploded when it turned around. Picard didn't. He kept going on forward...

I always wondered what the heck was going on with this episode... until I read that the original intent of the teleplay (by Hurley) was that Q was causing the event, and this would be exposed later in "Q Who". Without that tie-in, the confusing events seem just "timey-wimey".

Maybe the combination of the anti-matter explosion of the snuffed Enterprise, and that somewhat sentient energy vortex tunnel had some sort of effect on space time. Either way, it's one of my favorite stories.

Been a while since I've seen it, I thought that future Picard thought that he was the cause of the future Enterprise's problem, and so he left the ship, hoping the problems would follow him. He wasn't trying to travel in time to warn the younger Enterprise's crew of anything, that happen without his intent.

Yes, I admit this was an confusing episode since they all did time travel with no ill effects in other episodes and movie.

There were, umm, effects in STIV:TVH... Perhaps the heroes just got lucky on the other occasions, and Picard got particularly unlucky on this one?

This one would also mesh well with the idea that Q was behind it all - it would make Picard look rather clever...
