Time in Space

Poor Harry. All the responsibility and none of the rank.

They would have promoted him except he was always late for his pip ceremony due to oversleeping.

Janeway: "Congratulations, Lieutenant."
Kim: (rolls over) "Five more minutes..."
Janeway: *pip yoink* "Did I say lieutenant? I meant ensign...that's for being tardy."

Besides, it's a slippery slope to Admiral, where nobody lets you have fun anymore.

It might be bedtime on Voyager, but Baddy McBadface from planet Murderon might have just finished his lunch and be ready to crack skulls.
I've always wondered if the Hansens were assimilated at "night~, with all three fast asleep and the ship on autopilot when the Borg came along and found them literally asleep at the switch?

I have to wonder how many small ships flying on autopilot at "night" the Borg assimilated before those aboard knew what happened to them?

There's a bit in "Conscience of the King" where Kirk tells Lenore that they dim the lighting on the Enterprise at "night" in order to simulate Earth conditions and keep their body clocks in order.

Not sure if this was ever mentioned again . . . .

From Chakoteya.com:

LENORE: Did you order the soft lights especially for the occasion?
KIRK: If I had ordered soft lights, I'd also have arranged for music and flowers. Unfortunately, it isn't so. On the Enterprise, we try to duplicate earth conditions of night and day as closely as possible.

It actually doesn`t say anything about Circadian rhythms here. But it`s not a leap to say that`s another reason why they do it.

They might pair officers on the same ships who have similar circadian rythyms. Like, they sent a mostly human crew to DS9 because Bajor's day was so close to the human day.

One suspects, however, that they only dim the lighting in certain sections of the ship; and probably not the bridge and engineering. It's funny, though. I'm not sure this was ever mentioned again ....
