TIL...

I've had microwaves that have dials and others that have touchpad controls. They still sell plenty of microwaves with eggtimer-like dials, especially the smaller and cheaper models that have fewer electronic components in them.

I'm pretty sure you all know that the phrase "vast majority of" was assumed. Personally, I haven't seen a microwave with a dial in 20 years.

I saw one just the other day when I was shopping at one of my local Walmarts. It was kind of small and cheap, but it had a dial timer.

The fun thing, with this sidetrack, is that the 'timer-dial' is having a come-back atm, especially on high-end models. The newer timer-dial models are totally digital (like the touch-pad models) but fitted with an analogue user interface for easier flesh-to-silicon communication.

Today I learned of an interesting way to create a birthday present for a loved one.

I have since learned not to say too much too soon.

TIL that it is possible to eat too much leftover potato salad.

Don't ask.

TIL quite a bit about investing, and starting a 401K. It was actually at least mildly more interesting than I'd imagined, but I think I'll stick to my original plan of writing an internationally best-selling novel and/or children's book, winning the lottery (got to remember to buy a ticket sometime), and marrying a lonely Darcy-esque Englishman heir apparent to a huge estate and gothic manor who needs someone brilliant and cuddly like me to light up his life.

Or I'll go with a split pre-tax and Roth account at 6% of my salary with the first 3% matched by the company invested into a growth-package of mutual funds.

Why is reality so dull?

The last job I had was the only job I've ever had with any kind of retirement package. I left after a year and had something like $1,200 saved up in my 401K. However, since I'm not with the company anymore and they keep taking money out of my 401K, I am probably just going to cash it out and invest the money elsewhere.

I think the Internal Revenue Service can tap into someone's 401K if they've been declared a tax delinquent but even then I'm not entirely sure. I believe they can, though.

Yeah, but I'm still always surprised to find these things. I shouldn't be. But it still weirds me out that the bookstore might be a decent source of food, medical equipment, pet toys, and car parts.

Still freaks me out that they'd sell coffee (any liquid, actually) in a bookstore -they used to have signs on the doors banning liquids and ice-cream!
