TIL...

Quite possibly. But I am a bit spaced out at the moment from side-effects of these meds. And wasn't really concentrating.

I grew up in Seattle and so rarely used umbrellas as a kid. The rain there tends to be drizzly and light most of the time, so going out without an umbrella is fine. In NYC, though, the rain can come down so fast and so heavy that your clothes will be quite literally soaked through if you walk just a block or two: like you jumped in a pool fully dressed. It would be ridiculous to try to get by without an umbrella!

And, RevdKathy I hope you feel better!

Thank you thestrangequark, I'm fine. Much, much better than I have been of late. The price is slight fuzziness, sluggishness in the morning and a dry mouth. So I call that a win... as long as I don't do too many stupid things like that!

TIL that one should never mix bleach and toilet cleaner. Unless one wants to clear out one's sinuses and wash out one's eyes. (cough, sputter)

And kill brain cells and potentially die.

Never mix bleach with anything other than water.

Actually, I always keep a spare umbrella in my car, and keep one by the door on my way out so I remember to take one... if rain is in the forecast.

/nods agreement.

TIL that buying shoes on-line is a hit-or-miss affair, if they're a style you've never bought in person. Each shoe maker introduces its own subtleties to shoe sizes, whereby a good fit is not guaranteed just because the size matches what you normally wear.

True. Better shoe makers will tell you what last the shoe is made on. That way, once you know your size in that last, you can buy different styles of shoe from them without having to try them on in person.

Today I learned of the existence of fucking awesome aerodynamic umbrellas. I could sure use one of those. But with my habit of losing umbrellas, so I never spend more than $10 on one.

They do look awesome, don't they! I'm seriously tempted to add one to my rotation, for really stormy days. We don't get all that many of them, but it would be nice to have an option for when we do. Plus, I've always wanted a dark green brolly...

... plus, imagine how fast Mary Poppins could fly using one of those! :D

And they say you can't buy a fun home chemistry set any more... :D

I know EXACTLY what she said, and yes, it IS wonderful--but not as wonderful as a showerhead with a
"massage setting."

*cough*

TIL...that Amazon thinks some really weird things about me (like everyone else). After shopping last night for pearls, for a friend's birthday, I found this under "Recommendations" this morning:

I keep hearing the "One of These Things is Not Like The Other" song in my head. How does a double-bladed Bear Gryllis pocket knife fit in with a cheap strand of pearls? You can't kill a grizzly with a cheap pearl necklace, although I suppose you might offend his sense of fashion.

TIL that no matter how polite and nice you are to some kids they'll still be inconsiderate little jerks.
