Tiger won his 5th Masters today, 14 years after his last win.

I'm not a huge golf fan, and I certainly never could figure out how to play the game. I'm the "clubs in the lake" type.

Tiger has had a long strange trip since he was the best player in the world. Injuries, personal problems, etc, etc.

It takes a lot to keep on keeping on for that long and make it back to the top as an individual athlete. I'm not sure there's even a precedent.

At least no precedent to that extreme. A few tennis players had major comebacks after complete career collapse and won majors. Andre Agassi, for example. But not at Tiger’s age. Sampras and Federer has comeback victories too at the tennis equivalent of his age but neither had fallen out of the top 20.

It'll be interesting to see if Tiger can maintain this level of play for a while. It had been 11 years since his last majors victory.

I guess Jack Nicklaus’ 1986 victory is the closest comparison.

For a guy who couldn't walk a couple years ago, winning the Tour Championship and the Masters ain't half bad.

He has always had the ability. I bet this achievement will mean more to him given his struggles.

    Well done!

How far out had Jack fallen by 1986?

IIRC, Jack had gone about six years without winning a major when he won the '86 Masters. Of course, he did not have to go through the medical issues that Tiger went through - nor the personal scandals.
