Thursday Star Trek $1.875 million

Nice increase for Trek. It'll need 3.3m on friday atleast to cross $200m, can it do it???

It's Fridays have been seeing about a 100% increase, so that would be $3.6-3.7 million. Considering it is losing about 14% of its theatres, $3.3 is likely.

Box Office Prophets (If I recall correctly) predicted Trek to make another 12 million this weekend. Not bad.

Go Trek! Woohoo!

Fourth time for me this Saturday with my 9 year-old stepson. Please, no one tell me that he's too young to see the movie. He's my excuse for going again!

Along with my wife (age?), I took my 6 and 9 year-old daughters the first time. There were quite a few kids their age at that Saturday night opening showing.
I did assure them before hand that the entire movie wouldn't be as intense as the first fifteen minutes or so were going to be.

Franklin, did they like it? Your daughter's, I mean? not to scary or iffy for them? and I'm sure your ageless(?) wife loved it :p

I feel sorry that I can't take my niece to see it (she's 8). my brother's not allowing her to see it. I really wanted to because she's becoming a sci fi fan. I'm hoping she will at least get to see it on DVD.

Well, it should stay in theaters through July 4th, I bet is avg's 1 million per day over that time. So about 230-240 domestic, 400 worldwide. Nice run.

To be honest, my 6 year-old didn't like it. At least it didn't do anything for her. It didn't scare her or anything (nothing scares her), and she sat through it well, but it's just not her cup of tea. It's possible she didn't like it just because Daddy does. Right now, she's in a phase where many things Daddy likes are "stupid." But, when the Trek trailer started before Monsters vs. Aliens, she excitedly said loud enough for people around her to hear, "Daddy! It's your movie."
My 9 year-old liked it. She even taught herself the Vulcan salute (inherited my double-jointedness). Of course, she had a crush on Chris Pine going in. It's not going to make her a fan. She's hardly going to watch TOS, but I think she appreciates why I like it.
For what it's worth, my wife, who claims to loathe Trek, laughed at the laugh lines and when it was over said it didn't stink. I didn't stink. That means she liked it! Good work, J.J. The only other Trek movie she speaks that positively of is TVH.

hmm... Khan, eh? it's opening in India some time in June. we shall see.
Best villain.

kinda interesting that Trek's "best villain" is supposed to be a Sikh. they ARE kinda aggro!
Meat eaters.

Well, he looks pure Mexican to me -- a willing victim of billions of hours of Mexican telenovelas. Sikh or Aztec, they can be well endowed with gorgeosity.

Wow did better on Thurs than Wed!?? Amazing.

I think $250 million domestic is out of reach, but maybe $215-220 is!

It should have at least $208 million after this weekend, so $220 million is easy.

It's common for films to tick up a little on Thursday. Six of the Top 10 did so this week. Star Trek should hit at least $230 million domestic and has a good shot at $240 million.

When do they stop counting? Ever? I think I noticed Gone With the Wind was still on that list...

They count for as long as a film is accruing box office receipts, which is typically a run of 12 to 22 weeks these days (with a few huge flops running for fewer weeks than 12 and a few huge hits running for more than 22). If a film is re-released - as Gone With the Wind was many times over the years - then whatever box office it makes in its re-release is added on.

Mentioned this once before... I saw a Hawaii Five-O episode a couple months ago with a Japanese villain. My fiancee said that he looked like Montalban. I said no way... It was in fact he.
