Beats me... any idea why Trek did pretty much the opposite?
I suppose the European setting might be a factor in Angels & Demons' global success.
Yeah, Tom Hanks. Big movie stars still have the pull in the international box office that they once had here.
As that all it takes to make a success oversea's?
There has been other movies that have there focus in Europe and they never did that great.

I don't know about that, I just think some storylines appeal to Europeans more.
Well then we have the answer to are next Trek movie, get Hanks in there, because he wants to be in it anyway. I am sure he would be willing to take a pay cut if he was allowed to be a captain of a federation starship.
Maybe a rogue captain that was married to a Vulcan that was killed off screen in the first movie, and Kirk has to hunt him down. Because he is attacking Romulan outposts, for revenge.
Hanks was apparently in line to play Zephram Cochrane in First Contact, but for whatever reason, it didn't work out. Fortunately, the movie did well enough without him, but think about how much bigger it could have been if Angels & Demons' success is an indication of his effect on a film's box office totals.
He couldn't do it because he wanted to direct That Thing You Do.
