Thundercats (80s series)

indolover

Fleet Captain
I got into this again by accident recently (I say again, since as a kid like many it was my top show), but some things don't add up to me:

- How come Jaga owned the Sword of Omens in the pilot, when it is the Lord/King of Thundera that owns/uses it? Jaga was kind of like the senior Thundercat, but never the King of Thundera.

- the pilot was quite dark for a kids' show IMO lol. Personally I think the plots in the show can appeal just as much to adults as to kids, there is little there that is very infantile or too insulting for an adult to understand. It's not like a modern kids cartoon like Sponge Bob.

It's been awhile since I watched the pilot, but if I remember correctly, Jaga was a sort of caretaker for Lion-O. Snarf was his nursemaid, while Jaga was something else, sort of like a Prime Minister or Regent. Not the King (or "Lord"), but temporarily in charge, and a person respected by the powers that be.

Yeah, people think of Snarf and the wili's, but there were some very dark episodes and situations in the series. Maybe that's why so many of us remember it years later, but other cartoons of the era are forgotten?

Yes, Jaga was kinda like Denathor in LOTR; he was a steward after the death of Claudius, guarding the Sword and Lion-O until he came of age

Thundercats was not 'kiddy', thank goodness. Plus when they had their 'lesson of the day to teach', they did it with the story themselves, not those stupid ass public services at the end of episodes like He-Man and GI Joe did...as a kid, I already knew stealing was BAD, that drugs could mess you up, and all that stuff....I'd rather they spend those 2 or 3 minutes on the story and not that stuff, I often grabbed the channel changer or went to the bathroom when the end of episode PSA's came on. :p

And Thundercats had very nice animation and loved Jagga's and Panthro's theme.:techman:

Claudius, in the old series was blind, and was guiding the escape ships as I recall from a time travel episode. He had an escape pod, but for reasons I cant recall, didn't make it.
