Throwing out old birthday/greeting cards.

I only keep a few special ones but most end up in the trash. I don't want to be bogged down by clutter.

Definitely fall into that category. I used to give the same card to everyone for everything because I got a great deal on a huge pack of them. Happy Bat Mitzvah on your deployment to Iraq/birthday/graduation!

Also, do you throw away old cards? Keep 'em?

I still have virtually every card I've ever received in 32 years on this planet. When my grandfather died, I went back and looked at every card he'd ever given me, and it was a nice way to remember him and say goodbye.

I'm kind of a pack rat. I also have virtually every movie ticket dating back to 6th grade...

Since I moved--and after a massive purge of crap I decided I no longer needed right before and during the move--it has been a conscience effort on my part not to let crap build up. I got it from my mother, you see: save crap for no reason for years and YEARS. Birthday cards are crap, they get saved for about two days after my birthday now.

I keep all of my birthday cards. Getting one in the first place is a nice gesture and it just seems wrong to throw it away like it's nothing.

I myself, keep ones that signed. Blank cards I might toss or reuse them, unless they are "cool".

I don't remember ever buying a card for anyone. I just think that's more of a "chick thing".

I hate cards. The whole card industry is profiting without making anything useful.

But I also can't bear to discard any cards that I receive. I feel like I'd be throwing out a piece of someone if I were to do that. Thus, I have an ever-growing collection of cards...

It just depends on how the mood strikes me. If I'm cleaning off a surface, a card is likely to get pitched. Sometimes I'll put them in the junk drawer if I just see them laying about. The exception of course are those very special cards, such as those that are homemade. If it's that important, I'll usually display it somewhere.

I'll keep most of the ones I get from family since they tend to pick out great cards. They also have writing inside of them which is irreplaceable. Cards don't take up much space, so I don't feel bad about saving them. Old insurance documents, on the other hand, I need to throw away.
