This is like algebra.
At some point Discovery is abandoned and is waiting 1,000 years for something and can't leave where it is under any circumstances, as per "Calypso". I take that to mean it's somewhere that Control can't detect and if it leaves, then there's a risk it will be.
Gabriel Burnham is on Terralysium. Burnham & Crew want to go to Terralysium at least 950 years in the future. I think Burnham ends up there.
I also think, for some reason, they can't bring Discovery into the future with them, so they have to transport themselves into the future and Discovery has to remain in that same spot, so they have somewhere to return to when they reappear in the future, or they all die in space.

They get to the future. While they find out the Sphere data is safe and control is nowhere to be found, the Federation has become a terrible force that is fought against by a lot of sentient beings. They decide to abandon discovery and return to their own timeline to help the Federation become a decent place and avoid the future Craft is a part of.
I just feel bad for the captain who's been waiting on Vulcan. He's going to be waiting there a long time for Discovery.

It's like being in the middle of Islington without a bus due for two million years.
Pretty sure she's going to make a break for Boreth as soon as Leland is disposed of, grab some time crystals, and get herself there about 10 years ahead of the Disco crew.
"Titan of Time" has a nice ring to it, too. With a necklace of crystals (said in the voice of Enik from "Land of the Lost").

Adds up. Also remember that Terralysium is on the other side of the galaxy, whereas Alcor is pretty close to Sol and the Old Federation core worlds. Discovery doesn't have a spore drive, especially without a navigator, Michael and friends need to figure out how to get across the galaxy now.

Hopefulll Sarek or Amanda pay whoever it is a short visit and advise him/her to move on.
