Threshold episode and transwarp.

No, the events of Threshold were never brought up in the TV series again, period. Ever. Warp 10 was shelved.
Watch and learn, my young padewan.

From season 3's "Distant Origin". Chakotay is testifying in the dinosaur court.

I've had the opportunity over the last few days to learn something about your culture, your great accomplishments. Consider the breakthrough into Transwarp, an incredible achievement, and yet, your ancient Doctrine predicted terrible disasters if it were even attempted. That held your race back for millennia, until someone took a chance and challenged that prediction.

Of course, it probably helped that the Voth were just BIG LIZARDS to start with.

Hmmm.

Do you think in their initial failed tests, they evolved into humans?

Transwarp does not equal warp 10 - except in that idiot episode even its writer said should be ignored.

Well, whether its Starfleet warp 10 or Voth version 10.0..... they moved WICKED fast.

The Voth moved their city ship to intercept Voyager in less time than it takes to say, CRIMENY! Thats a freaking big ship that's just swallowed us! :alienblush:

(What transwarp was Scotty talking about on the Excelsior in "STIII: Search for Spock"?

I dunno, but the Borg call their thing "transwarp" too. "Transwarp coil," "transwarp conduit," "transwarp ham sandwich," etc.

Probably a new propulsion paradigm that went significantly beyond warp at the time. Most people seem to think that the "great experiment" was a failure but I prefer to think that the 24th century warp (with its new warp scale) is the transwarp of the 23rd century.

In any event, "wicked fast" is not infinitely fast.

"Transwarp" is just a generic term for "faster than warp". Hence Borg Transwarp, Excelsior's Transwarp, STXI's Transwarp beaming, Voth Transwarp...and "Threshold"s Infinity Transwarp. All of which can be different if need be.

Quantum Slipstream was said by Seven (in "Hope and Fear") to be very similar to Borg Transwarp, hence the same VFX being used and the Borg not using it after they assimilated the Dauntless.

In the novels, the reason Quantum Slipstream didn't work was because Voyager's hull couldn't take the strain. Since they got back, Starfleet's built a brand new type of ship custom made to withstand Slipstream velocity, called the Vesta class, which can get across the galaxy in months (a couple of Vestas are in the recent "Full Circle" and "Unworthy" Voyager books, retracing Voyager's path IIRC).
